How about a Z31 as a drift car, I was wondering how much the Z31 weighs against the 200sx and how much weight could be saved by striping out all uneeded parts. just an idea Iam toying with, as the Z31 are going for reasonalbly cheap money, I suppose a turbo would be the best bet, weld the diff up and there we go!!!

What do you think!!!

I'd love to see one as a drift car in the UK.

Just mind that engine temp :D

Hmmmm, drool!

Depending on source and which comparison you make, between 200 and 400 pounds. U.K. 2+2 turbo is probably the heavyweight at about 3200 lbs and the early NA shorties may be as little as 2800 lbs.

3200 lbs = 1454.5 kg
2800 lbs = 1272.7 kg

So a saving of 180 kilos in English money. That's a hell of a lot of extra weight. 1/6(ish) of a metric tonne. No wonder the performance went down with the 2+2. That's like carrying a quadbike in the boot!

Not only that but the fuel consumption suffers.......the shorty Z31 atmo 5sp that I just sold for £2700 was lovely and seemed to have more 'grunt' than the turbo I had before ! A late '80s 240Z !

Perhaps your turbo wasn't working!....Having said that, I bought a Z31 NA manual off ebay a couple of years ago and it did seem particularly fast for an NA and had more lower speed grunt than my old Turbo car!
The gearing on the turbo car is far too long legged...you only really need the first 3 gears!

The turbo worked fine - you dropped it into 3rd to overtake something at 50mph, the next minute you're doing 110 !

But I found that there was nothing low down whereas with the N/A version it pulls very sweetly - compression ratio ? And I also found that you needed to use the gearbox to get and keep it moving - not so with this one !
Last comment, as asoon as I was revving up, enjoying myself, it was time to change up - ultimately very frustrating !

The Z31 like other 80's Nissan cars suffers from "roll oversteer" as it does have semi-trailing arm rear suspension. You can attempt to counter it by stiffing the rear suspension.

Just don't abuse the crap out of the car, OK?

I think I read somewhere that until a turbo starts to spool up they tend to restrict things escaping, which would be why the N/A seems a little more nippy low end. Have to admit with Sean that once spooled you will notice the grunt as the turbo kicks in. As for drifting I don't know enough but would suggest LSD, and do something about the lag the turbo models get ... the last thing you want is for it to kick in as you are doing stupid speeds sideways :D

Cheers
