Young Z enthusiast looking for advice

Hey all,

I've just been wondering how hard it is to keep a triple weber setup in tune in a 260z. I am not terribly experienced with car engines but I'm studying mechanical engineering in Australia so I'm more than willing to learn. I've heard it needs tuning every few months.

Alternatively I've been told I could sell the triple webbers for around 1000 Australian and that would pretty much pay the cost of the EFI conversion.

I want the car to be my daily driver, as I cant afford to run two cars and do not have the garage space.

Any suggestions or past experiences?

Thanks in advance guys,

Steve

PS here is the link to the car I am thinking of buying:

I can't help sorry, I'm noy mechanically minded at all! BUT the car looks really smart though.

GOOD LUCK

Once carbs are set properly ( balanced/mixture) there is very little to do on them, make sure it has a good fuel and air filter at all times and you won't have much trouble. Personally I don't like carbs but they sound great and look the part! lovely looking car by the way.

My triple setup was very well behaved, and I set it up be ear once i had the recommeded jet settings, needed a tweek now and then not too much bother. Fuel economy will be quite high with triples, depends on how heavy your right foot is!!!

I agree with twoforty.
Why they should make more trouble than other carbs? If they are once balanced proper, there will be just a smile in youre face. Go for it.

Daily driver on triples will be expensive on fuel.

My 2" SUs are far more practical!

Swop?

Thanks for the advice guys, I really appreciate it. I noticed a couple other people have a triple carb setup. I am curious as to what kind of fuel economy you get? And how about those who have EFI?

I was told to expect around 12 to 15L/100km. How does this hold up for you guys?

Thanks again :)

Steve

PS What are SUs?

Without a lot of technical knowledge you would need to eploy expensive labour to fit EFI. If cost of fuel is an issue you could buy a lot of fuel for the cost of conversion!

Your estimate of 20 - 24 miles per gallon (by my approximation) may not be too far off. Certainly not more with the 4.1 diff in this car.

I don't run triples but SU carburetors. Basically these are bigger UK versions of the original (1.75") twin carbs (Japanese SU copies). These tend to use less fuel than triples, probably about 20% less.
