I've noticed that some owners have removed all their Datsun decals and badges and have filled in the holes and sprayed them over to give a seamless look.

It looks good I must admit. Not sure I could do it to my old girl though..

What do you think??

The concept of your Z should determine your choice. If you build a wide arch, V8 custom you are not going to leave a tacky Datsun badge on the bonnet. A pristine original 240Z should, of course, not deviate from originality.
Even Nissan in Japan decided that the "hambuger" emblem was not a fitting tribute to their flagship 300ZX Z32 and designed a good looking "Z" emblem for it (not so Nissan UK though....).
Sadly the 350Z appears to have been "burgered" both front and rear with the front one being squashed into the very fabric of the nose (as per UK Z32). All the more reason to buy a replacement front end as soon as possible (see current mag cover).

Everyone to their taste - which is so nice about Zeds - you never see lines of the same -same cars all conforming to left the factory spec as per some MG etc dos.
There are of course a few purists we can count on to provide 'what it looked like' models.
My green 240Z had all the correct badges - my new one won't have all of them but will note that it is at least a Datsun Z. Don't want some jerk thinking it's a Capri or a Porsche.
If I don't wear all the correct badges is because as Mike says, some of 'em look tacky but that's corporate imaging for you !
So, I've voted  in the I've dome it w'out guilt but some badges remain.

Hi,
The good thing about my import Z32 was that it didn't have a single "Nissan" badge on the exterior or interior, just a Z logo on the front and on the steering wheel. This kept some people guessing!
&nbsp; After all, "Nissan isn't a very glamourous name, and is more accosiated with Micras and Primeras. <img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>
&nbsp; My Z31 only has a very small "Nissan 300ZX Turbo" script stuck onto the rear panel and the 'plastic rocket ship' "Z" logo on the front.
&nbsp; I must admit I don't think much of the newer "Hamburger" badge and think the Z/ZX ranges should have their own identifying mark.

Hi i ran my 72 240z without any badges for a long time , but after i did fit them the car , to my eyes anyway , looked much better , now would not dream of running without badges
                           cheers

I wouldn't worry too much about witch hunters chasing you if you do remove your badges. Should a Z ever land on my lap then I am going to stick with the Z badges only but change them to something like 550Z instead...

Hi,
&nbsp; You can get a replacement "Nissan" hamburger badge which reads "INSANE" instead! <img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'>

Mike,
Are you still working in cubic inches ? Aren't you in metric european wonderland yet ? Guess you're impressing 'em all with your 'there's no substitute for...'

A 350 Chev will always be a 350 Chev to me no matter how much of your Euro metrication you try and pump into my system. We shall not be overcome......

I was in two minds when I had my 260 resprayed and sorted out. In the end she got all new and correct badging. The only one I'm not sure about is the Datsun badge on the bonnet - I'd rather have a big "Z" badge - but the rest I like. Only other prob with the Datsun badge is the way people stop to admire the car and then wander round the front and say... "ewwwwwww... Datsun". Unappreciative bl**dy peasants.

ps - I go to the NASC Nats whenever I can (biggest custom car show in Europe etc) and to my mind, being woken up on the morning of Show'n'Shine day by the sounds and smells of a thousand V8's firing up takes some beating.

Mine has just got the bonnet badge, have the originals, in two minds as I think the datsun badges on the side look good, but like the fact that people just don't know what there looking at. Do like the idea of changing the bonnet badge for a big Z, Mike any ideas where??

All models from the 280ZX and onwards had a "Z" bonnet emblem. Indeed, in Japan, some Z models had a version of the 280ZX emblem in metal and formed to fit the bonnet ridge.

Look at 280ZX, 300ZX Z31 (Mk.1 and Mk.2) and import 300ZX Z32 for types available - mostly from stock. Pricewise, the 280 version is expensive, the rest very reasonable (i.e. under £20).

Japanese domestic market S30-series Z cars had the round pot-metal "Z" bonnet emblem right from launch in late 1969.

Unless time runs backwards in Japan, this was not a "version of the 280ZX emblem".

Pedantic or what? I am sure you understood that for the majority of the Z population my description was entirely adequate and more useful in a practical sense! The face appearance of the emblem was pretty much the same as the later 280ZX (and also as used in the Classic Z Register logo). Although originals were metal, later supplies were in plastic - a small batch came my way a few years ago and were purchased by a lucky few die-hard enthusiasts, but then became unavailable again.......

Yes - pedantic is one word that you could use to describe this old Count.:D

Don't you think its worth getting it right though? Or perhaps the 'majority of the Z population' are happy enough without the full story, and don't really care about what other markets got ( unless it happens to be the USA market - in which case they will lap it up ).

The S30-series Z cars were a NISSAN ( not Datsun ) product. Badging them with the 'Datsun' name was just a local-market issue for the countries they were sold in. You'd have a hard time finding the 'Datsun' name anywhere on a Japanese-market S30-series Z.

My answer was about supplying a badge with a Z that would be liked. Most Z owners over here would only be familiar with a 280ZX, hence the ass behind cart analogy. It's not a matter of getting it wrong; I didn't think a history lesson was appropriate here.

hi,
&nbsp;Thinking about it.....why do the ZX models have a Z badge on the bonnet? My old 280ZX had the Z badge, a ZX script, Datsun and Nissan badges!....Very confusing to the casual observer <img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'>

The "Z" is the unifying description so maintains the marque identity throughout the Fairlady range. The 300ZX Z31 and JDM Z32 models are also badged simply "Z" on the bonnet.

Towards the end of the 280ZX run, Nissan were resolving their identity crisis in the U.K. - the 280ZX became "280ZX by Nissan" on its tailgate emblem and then from the first 300ZX Z31 onwards, everything was Nissan and Datsun was no more.
