Whats wrong...

Houston we have a problem.

Every time I go to view "new posts", it gives me all the old ones I have already seen. It's up to two pages now !!
I've tried marking all posts as read, logging out and logging back in, deleting cookies, but all to no avail.

A recent phone call revealed that i am not the only one.

Yes, the problem is spread far and wide. From the frozen wastes of Nottingham down to the deepest depths of Kelvedon Hatch. I tried eating the cookies, didn't solve the problem but i felt better <img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>

Yep me too, I too tried eating cookies (although I don't much care for them) and to no avail.

That's two problems we have now, one the fact the website becomes unavailable when more than 12 people is it? try to look at it and two the cookies and history is all messed up in the forum.

Might be time for a radical change maybe? heh

Will see what I can come up with.

Over a week on and this is still not fixed for me - is everyone else still having the same problem? Is this why activity on this site seems to have reduced to a crawl, if not a dead stop?

spoke to martin again last night and as soon as he gets a spare moment he will look into it

stange that almost all of the posts seem to stay
but have noticed that the age poll thread has gone from new posts

have tried to look on the ikonboard help section but can't find answer so will have to wait for martin to deal with

New posts is working fine for me. Why me and not you guys? Haven't got a clue.... <img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':('>

Just a comment - I use both forums and the response time on this one is markedly down on the other one. So I don't browse this one as much as the other one. Just my 2p.

Cheers - Gio

This forum vs what other forum?

Hopefully we're going to change forum and get something integrated into the main site which will be php based and hopefully faster for all and more seamless. However until the main site will take more than 12 people simultaneously and I can find a converter or Ikonboard bring out their php board theres not too much I can do <img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':('>

Ah well

Hi Russ - I meant that haven of quiet reason www.300zx.co.uk <img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

I know they run it on a dedicated server. If you're going to be looking at some changes to hosting, you could do worse than drop craig an e-mail craig@avnet.co.uk as they recently went through the upgrade pain barrier! I am sure they would be happy to share info and contacts.

If you're anywhere near Thurrock on Sunday, there's a meet and I guess Craig will be there.

Cheers - Gio

Well I'm now onto THREE pages of new posts and growing daily, including the owner age survey thread.
Bit of a pain really. I'm not moaning(yet) as I can tell the technos are on the case. <img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':0'>

4 pages now both martin and russ have been asked if they can try to sort it out but both are stumped at the moment
easiest way to read new posts may be to ingnore the new post button at the moment and go by the date posts on the side of the main forum page which saves scrolling through the 4 pages
not an answer to whats wrong but may be easier for the moment

Spoke to Martin last night and he told me he has noticed the problem with the new posts is happening to a few other users of Ikonboard and has emailed and phoned ikonboard  and they say that they that if we upgrade from the free issue of the board to the bought one they should be able to sort the problem out
My view at the moment is that we should live with the problem as I can't justify paying out £250 for the upgraded software
Maybe IT experts using the board can help with suggestions or another free board but cost of transfering data could be prohibative
thoughts needed

Hi,

It is certainly strange, why it would suddenly occur I don't know. Far short of figuring out the pages of code for this forum (which I really don't have enough time to do <img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'> ) I can't think of how to solve it.

I think it maybe time to try to move to another board that's integrated into the main site better. So long as it's PHP based and we can convert everything across so nothing is lost (inc usernames/passwords etc) then it should be ok. That however is where we get stuck, at the moment I haven't found ANY converters to take Ikonboard 3 databases and format it for say phpBB, ubb or similar.

I'll have another hunt for one later on.

Cheers

Ah - I assumed that someone had fixed the problem - all of a sudden it works fine again for me. Are some members still having difficulty with the new posts or should we stop worrying and get on with our lives again?

It's still not working for me so I am doing as Steve suggested for now.

Perhaps we should discuss what we should do, costs etc at the next commitee meet.
I know it's been a while, but I do intend on being there.

I can't think of anything that I have done to cause a change, but there must be a common factor to affected users as opposed to the system being at fault (?).
Would it help if everyone affected by the problem posted here with their ideas on any changes they might have made to their systems?

If it were just me, Steve and Rob affected I would suggest it was a Super Admin problem, but pmac is affected also (no rude comments please). No-one else has posted to say they are affected. How widespread is the problem?<img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>
