Has anybody on here had the problem of the oil pump hex. drive-shaft 'rounding off'? If sio did you get financial help from VW?

My cousin has just had this happen and it has cost him thousands of pounds!!!!

He now realises it's a common fault but no luck with VW over compensation.

I read a Buyer's Guide in Car Mechanics this week for the Skoda using a similar engine. They said that the engine has one MAJOR flaw and explained the drive issue.

How can VW get away with this?

Just in the middle of doing one for a customer at work ,pump drive and chain broke which then ran the turbo dry .audi parts bill was 1400 pounds for the modified kit, pump housing ,sump seals etc and £350 for a recon turbo from ITS ,bill came to £2800 all together ,they know there is a problem but bury their heads in the sand .
Dont think i want an Audi diesel :-/

In these hard times we live in, I think car manufacturers build in these defects to guarantee themselves revenue in the future. Or am I just being a cynic?

I don't think they build defects into cars john they just have to build them to a cost i know for a fact that some makes designe parts and are then told to reduce the cost, thats why we have plastic wheels running around cam belts which do fail quite often

dont worry to much rob your not alone !
