OK changed the EGI relay part number25237 p7104 hidden inside front wing near battery this can fail and turn off efi system and large fuel pump relay in relay box at front of car but this would not cause over fuelling, so have also disconnected fuel feed to cold start injector and sealed the pipe as this may well be stuck open and spraying fuel into the air inlet manifold even when engine is up to temp thus causing it to run rich seem to be running ok but have not yet had a chance to take it for a blast maybe tomorrow thanks for your help guys will let you know how it goes

PS if any of you have 280zx 79 to 81 would it be possible for you to check what part number your relay is in the wing by the battery and how many wires it has going to it mine has six many thanks

Hi Derrick

Same part number/number of wires as your EFI relay. Attached is a test for the EFI relay. You might need to check the water temperature circuit as this is also one of the inputs to the EFI module and can cause over fuelling.

Cheers

Derrick, did you manage to sort this out? I was wondering if there were still issues with injectors being stuck open etc due to any bits getting through the old filter? I had the previous issue of car cutting out. It was rust in the tank building up in the filter. I went as far as replacing the tank. I didn't have black smoke, but as mentioned by the others it can be the EFI stuff. If you have and EGR valve then see if you can manually move it while the car is runnning (reach under it and you can feel the diaphram - should be able to press it in and it should return back). If this is stuck, it could explain black smoke.

Just suggestions as you follow the EFI stuff...

After my last update thought i had sorted it seemed to be running fine in the garage ,so took it out for a blast got to local garage about two miles away no problems stuck £50 pounds of fuel in it then headed home . Had an invite to Santa Pod Flame and thunder With free tickets left at gate if i put my car on show in the paddock , so with car fuelled up me and Rose wrapped up warm jumped in car and headed of to Santa Pod got about 1 mile down the road and car just cuts out  Gutted, tried to start it, nothing pulled couple of the plugs they was wet dried them and put them back in turned the key after about 20mins car started straight away drove home and parked it up in the garage .Think i may have sorted it after checking all contacts again they were fine ,run the car for about 20mins in garage and it just cut out again would not start and wet plugs ,decided to take the top of the EFI relay and the fuel pump relay went in had a coffee came back out and car started strait away  it then ran for about 20mins again spluttered and died while it was spluttering i was looking at both relays and the were working as they should do.think i was looking in the wrong direction should have been looking at spark related problem not fuel have changed the IC Module [little black box side of distributor ] and it seem to be ok runs for long period without cutting out think the module was overheating and cutting the spark to a weak spark then nothing thus giving the impression it was over fuelling .after leaving to cool down it would start straight away and then cut out after 20mins hopefully i have sorted it will let you know once I've been for a proper test run [weather dependant] thanks for all you advise guys
