Hi Steve,
Well spotted, I hadn't tested that page and my new Z club shop window was conflicting, another example of why I 'dislike' postNuke.
Ok vBulletin
Its $160, one time only, to allow us to run it forever on one server on one domain (so we can't use it on www.zclub.co.uk AND www.anotherclub.co.uk say).
$30 a year is for member access, which expires after 12months of buying the software. This means we'd have use of the vBulletin support forums, which I can't see we'll need. However I might because I'm a geek renew personally so thats not an expense we'll encounter.
I am willing to put up the $160 myself and if/when the website starts returning some money for the club I can be reimbursed that way. The advertising scheme should turn up trumps, it's in my own interest to make it work <img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='

Reasons for are
- Will allow us to successfully (if it doesn't I'll sue vBulletin) integrate the forum into the main site.
- Will allow members with basic net skills to more easily interact with the site, currently postNuke isn't very intuitive imo.
- As used by many other good car clubs, makes life much easier and being a 'professional' product the quality is there.
- Will facilitate easier introduction of new features and modifications to the site for the club.
- Realiable, at the moment Ikonboard isn't working that well and we seem to encounter problems with the (slow) main website too often.
- Wider support groups, meaning our site can have all the bits we want easily.
- More powerful software is definately the long term solution, it's the web connoisseurs site of choice, the best long term solution to an ever growing club website, lets face it the site is only going to grow and it's designed to handle medium-large traffic, something I wouldn't like to trust postNuke and a dodgy Ikonboard to.
I think I'm starting to repeat myself so I'll quit now, basically the website is like the magazine in it's importance and I'm sure if you could spend £100 once off and £20 a year (that's web hosting) to get a good magazine, like vBulletin will help with a good website the club wouldn't hessitate in spending out. Which it doesn't have to cos I'll pay and then the website will pay me back.
I can think of no reasons against, those who have any please post and I'll come up with counter-arguments.
Also the argument "Don't fix what isn't broken, the website works fine now and doesn't cost anything" isn't valid, the website isn't fine, it barely works (to its potential) and it does need fixing, I keep harping on about www.peugeot-gti.net but the PGAC (I also belong to) has a very good site running vB.
Sooner we can get going on this the better because the more active the site becomes and the more additions to postNuke we have (galleries etc) the more work it will be to change over.

Russ and vBulletin gets my vote. It's got a good rep, the only other car forum I bother with uses it and if we're going to rely on the help of volunteers, we should try to get them the tools they feel happy working with.

looked a few clubs who use vbulletin and impressed with the speed of them gets my vote as well

Mike: All the forum history etc including pms should be moved seamlessly. I will of course have multiple backups of everything (which I do regularly anyway) incase it doesn't work out, but I'll test it all first anyway without anyone realising.
