DONE! Update the latest magazine shot - Russ 7/6/03

Hey all,

Created this new forum just so I wouldn't hog the "Latest thread" in the other forums, keeps it tidy this way.

Below is a list of things that need to be done, feel free to reply with ideas or opinions on changes, also those with admin privaleges feel free to edit this post to add to the list and keep it all at the top.

Please, please, please update the magazine cover shot so that the 280ZX from the last issue has at least a week on show before being replaced by the Summer edition. It is the 25th Anniversary of the 280ZX after all.

BTW re. list position, above is up and below is down (teacher in me can't resist.......). Add to list of things to do : implement red biro button for MFs corrections.

LOL

I just pasted it all to the top for convenience.

I think I might just implement a 'mute MF' button instead

hi Gio
I think you need to go into Your Control Panel
open Account Options
in the Time Zone there is a box if you enter +23hrs it should correct the time to within a few minutes

Aha! Steve - good fix.

But (there's always a but... ) that means that there is a server somewhere which is set on the wrong time. It is non-optimal for a user in the same time zone as the forum to have to change the user's correct time zone into a +23 zone.

I've been mildly peeved by the time thing since I joined the forum and I know other users have made comments about times being wrong. Can we not just get it right?

TIA - Gio

Ok gonna look into it, I've had the same problem trying to fix the forum at www.bladeice.com, the trouble lies in BST, I can tell it that its GMT but soon as BST comes in it goes wrong again.

Ok well it seems the board was set wrong, now everyone who has set themselves to +23 might have to change that but generally we're only 10 mins out, now thats a problem of the server clock and nothing much I can do I'm afraid

Least I hope I've fixed it and haven't ballsed it up for everyone, someone else post pls..

LOL sorry I can always adjust it back if you like,

But for those 120mins you kept things running smoothley, I'll look to creating another less annoying problem that you can fix

won't Gio love this, he registered in May 2002 and after a year of being annoyed about the time setting
He gets a fix on how to put it right
Does it and is a happy bunny and then 2hours later he will have to undo the fix because his time will now be wrong
LMFAO

Steve: I'll update your e-mail after brunch mate, as for moving the shop about I'm having trouble logging in and I have this nice remote software I wanna use, then I'll try to move it out onto the main page (into what is known as a 'block', there you learn something every day), but Martin and I have been chatting and we may be looking sooner rather than later into moving everything into vBulletin software which should make life grand.

www.peugeot-gti.net run it.

And the best bit is the forums can be integrated, will just mean the site will be down for a couple hours once we've done a few test runs, backed it all up and then make the change over.

We might be staring into website bliss...

Gio: LMAO (I don't know the answer either! )

Just to back up what Russ / Martin are saying about vBulletin - this is what Craig and the tech mods chose for the other lot's board and they are firmly of the opinion that the few quid it cost was a good investment.

Thank you Gio,

My thoughts are its $160 for ever, and it will be around a few years yet. I'm willing to pay for that and if/when advertising takes off on the website as revenue comes in that can reimburse me and pay for the hosting.

I've been looking into the front page being slow and nothing makes sense. I in turn removed every block that could cause a problem and it was still slow so that just leaves the news, and we can hardly remove that

Steve: I've updated your e-mail everywhere I could see it, let me know if I've missed something, I also tried to add a block for the back issues (which I'll talk to you about sometime, I wanna catch up myself ) and the only block I could find that wasn't super slow was the random block, I am in two minds about messing around getting it all working dandy if we're going to vBulletin soon anyway, so for now that's what I'll leave it at.

Gonna talk some more to Martin then start a thread about "Can we get vBulletin please" so those who want to have their say can, leave it a week then Martin and I will get to work on the seamless changeover, you guys won't see a thing apart from one day you'll be hit with an awesome new site that has everything together, isn't slow and has the ability to have whatever you want including members being able to create articles, news linked to the main page properly, oooh I'm excited!

got a committe meeting coming up in two weeks time
give me breakdown costs of vbulletin so I can submit them

when I looked at their site yesterday there also seemed to be a charge of $30 each year

but remember I'm old and the eyes aand brain ain't what it was

might be an idea to do a report on the benifits of vbulletin for mre to take along
