The Journey Begins...

I've passed over 50 driving tests now :D, My car test took two attempts because I was young and stupid , I then learned to drive Mobile cranes and have passed driving and operator tests on 48 different cranes now, Ranging from my first crane a little 8 ton mobile crane right up to the last 160 ton mobile I finished my crane driving carrier on, I then took my HGV 2 which I passed first time and then a month later I took the HGV 1 again first time :driving::D.

I'd like to do an advanced driving test of some sort in the next few years, Because I know my driving though pretty good isn't perfect, And I've picked up a few bad habits over the years that's for sure.

Good luck with your test Jak I hope you pass .

jakko, being an ex follower of smallville, i realise it must be hard to contain your 'super powers' whilst driving.
it may prove prudent to wait till around the fifth lesson before exposing the 'tokyo drift' style parrallel parking. ;)

Especially in a 206 diesel! It was brilliant though.

It's such a good feeling the first drive in your own car when you've passed, I remember being let loose in my rusty 77 mini:driving:. It's great (the feeling, not the 77 mini):D

First time for me!:p

I've passed first time 3 times, Lol that'll keep you amused. Good luck and you'll love being in the drivers side.

I passed second time and in my experience, those that passed first time drive like ar*e-wipes - I then passed first time FOUR times Ollyc (I know what) !

But the best was getting the car out, taking off the 'L' plates and driving on my own - I then started learning how to drive and not merely move a car.

Well done Jakko - my Gran passed her test at 67, having neverd driven before so.......at least she passed before Mr Datsun-Dave....................

Even the Mrs passed first time, luckily before we met!

Yo, yo, yo! Second lesson done and dusted. Today we were going through the gears on a small estate in Gorleston On Sea (where I live) that opens out, by way of a long, wide lefthander onto the seafront (which is nice and wide). Got a chance to put the boot down a little, not that it's why I'm doing it or anything as I only do as instructed. Got another lesson friday evening and then another next wednesday and friday. At this rate, my resolution to get my licence this year shouldn't be too much of a problem. I'm very excited about it. The instructor asked how I thought I'd done and I replied that "it felt pretty good" and that "the gear changes were reasonably smooth" and she agreed that my 'shifting' was really good and smooth seeing as I'd only been driving for an hour. Top stuff! Will keep thee posted as I go but for now I just gotta say that I'm lovin' it!

Wicked mate, I've missed the sponsorship and stuff so send me your paypal and how much a lesson is so I can do my bit to getting our resident website hero into the land of Zs (that way you'll never leave the club, it's a wise investment for myself!) :) (if you don't do it I'll just get Sean to send me the details).

Glad it's going well :D

My wife has had her Provisional Licence for 35 Years.
Wow! That's kind of how I was getting, too long in the tooth. That's why I felt I had to do it now.

Had lesson three today (it seems like ages since my last one). It went really well. I drove home from where we practice, which crosses the A12 with multi-lane junctions and such the like. Thankfully, my lane was empty going in and the lights were just changing as I got there so pretty much straight across but I'd built it up in my head as being more complicated so I was cautious. Still, all good things. She said I'd done really well (she's not yet used her dual controls, and I haven't hopped or stalled) so I guess passing this year is not out of the question at all.

Wowzers. Well it's been a while so I thought I'd keep you groovers abreast of how it's going. I've had 14 lessons now. It's going great. I've done the main maneuvers (reversing round a corner, turning in the road and reverse parking) a few times now and am just practicing driving now really. We've gone from driving around Yarmouth and Gorleston's housing estates and seafronts (where it's just lights and junctions) to Lowestoft where it's nothing but roundabouts. They're everywhere! From mini to mega, they're all there for practicing on. I'm really enjoying it and can see light at the end of the tunnel.

Also, I drove our car again today (only the second time). My missus had the day off because she was not too well and I had to use some holiday up before April. The family car is not brilliant. The clutch is like a switch (either on or off) and the gear box is shocking. Here's a pic of what that might look like:

...So I decided that if I was gonna be driving the family car that we needed a decent one and as we have 3 kids and often take the mother-in-law out and about a 7 seater was needed. Off to the local Vauxhall dealer to look at the Zafira it was. I chose it based on lots of things before (if) anyone says "oooh, they're crap". 1) It's the best looking of the buses bar none 2) It has 7 seats and not 5 like the stupid f*cking Megane Scenic and Xara Picasso (which are not people carriers but just FAT cars). 3) The 16v CDTi does 0-60 in 9.6 and 30-50 in 6.0secs, has emissions of 159g/km and does 56 to the gallon! The best bit though is that if we have a big family car that's all nice, posh and shiny looking (bear in mind the missus has only ever had 10 yr old escorts), I can have a 2 seater for myself. That means any Z! Oh yes indeedy. Now, all I need to do is write to Jim'll fix it and we're there...
