Why is it sad?

He can't ride at that level for ever.

I didn't realise he was 42!

Another 9 times champ Mike Hailwood made a comeback and won the TT but he was only 38 then!

Bit surprised by the ages.

Its sad as I'd like to see him get a few more wins. He's off to do something easy now, racing on 4 wheels.

Hes a good age to stay at the top of his game. His stats are pretty amazing.

Sad day indeed, he is an absolute Legend. I'd love to have half the ability that he does!

Very impressive that he's kept on his game for as long as he has, just a shame that at top level motorsport you become so reliant on having a good machine to work with.

Totally agree
Superb rider and fella, sad to see him retire but his time has definitely come
Has given so much to the sport and continues to give lots with the academy etc

Just watched the video of Lewis and Rossi exchanging machines. So good to watch and Lewis has so much respect for Rossi. Rossi is such a great guy.

At the end of this week I should have my first bike since 1981 and no Datsun since 1996. More later.

Rossi was once offered an f1 drive with Ferrari, which he turned down. Hes also won many rally races.

What bike are you getting Rob?

……Rob you won’t know what to do with all that space in your garage!
Lack of garage space was a factor in the decision to sell. I had no space for anything else and no space to do car jobs. The huge wiring and heater/ventilation work on my blue 240 finished me off.

I remember his exploits in rallying. Bit like Kimi and Kubica, naturally talented.

My bike is a late model of the first superbike. I may never ride it but never say never. It's been a long time since a bike was my only transport and I bought my mate's VW Beetle to go on my honeymoon in.

The bike is a part-ex against my Samuri. It will be interesting.

Oh, the first 'superbike'........... there's lots of debate around what that is!
