Super Z!

Hi,
I see that at this year's TOTB competition an EVO 5 ran a top speed of 199.1mph in the top speed run and a WRX came second overall with a 9.93 @143mph on the 1/4 mile strip!
Out out the top ten cars overall...3 were Evo 4s 5s 6s and 2 were Imprezzas!

Basically, I don't honestly think that our beloved 240 or 260 Z's can really compare in performance terms to sorted Scoobies or Evo's or whatever without having a HUUUGE amount of money thrown at them. You could I suppose build a 240 that would out-drag one, or out-corner one maybe, but do both? I doubt it. That 30 years of developement and electrickery is too big a mountain to climb.

BUT, if I wanted a scoobie instead of a Z I'd buy one. Ditto the EVO. I chose my 260 'cos I think it's better looking, better sounding, easier to work on and possessing a shedload more character. No disrespect to the Scoobs and EVO's - damn good cars IMHO - but how common these days????

Oh look there's an Impreza.... and another one.... and another one... and... no.... wait a minute.... yup, another one... etc etc

im getting a scooby estate when i sell my saab, heard a few times they handle better than the saloon, also another labrador to go with it,was thinking about the legacy b-spec,my mate has a twin turbo forester, that is rapid

Hi,
Yes if we wanted Scoobies we would buy them!...I prefer a coupe shaped car myself.
A Legacy turbo estate would make a very nice daily runner though!...prefer them to the more common Impreza!
What about a Skyline Stagea estate car?...preferably the 2.6 twin turbo one! :D

Modified or Super ?

Ok then boys do you want me to run in the "Modified" class next year ? are we running for "pink slips" ?
also can i run a Mark Rayner engine in "Modified" class or will be put in "Super"

Strangely though in 2 years at the pod I cant recall seeing an Evo:confused:
There was a yellow evo 8(?) there sunday, it ran a 13.4/5 ish I believe first thing in the morning, nice chap who came over to see me after seeing my car. He had uprated clutch, induction and exhaust mods and upped boost. I think the 4wd has a lot to do with it as well! I didn't see him run again though..

you'd have to tell us the engine spec for that mate ;)

When is Mark going to run his car?

Now we are talking - Zs are for corners too, same as Scoobys - a drag strip is NOT a definitive performance measure :) And if a well sorted Z does come a close second to a modern 4WD boosted car - so what, it's still a great looking sportscar and not a 4 door saloon ! Sorry, there is SOME snobbery here !

So Mark finally got around to building another engine.....

But what is a definitive performance measure ?? A combination of a lot of things and a drag strip is one of those for sure.

I like my corners too (very much so) :)

I didn't really mean for drag racing in general, just leaving him behind on the motorway would be good :)

Lots of torque needed I think!

Hi,
I regularly used to out drag an Impreza Turbo on the motorway, in my Z32 NA!....I used to pull away over about 100mph...much to his annoyance!
It happened on a few occasions on the daily commute.
My normally aspirated car only had a de-catted stainless exhaust system, which did seem to release a few extra ponies at the high end!

Didnt the WRX have a low gearing ratio, more suited to a rally style of driving, not long legged motorway top speed gearing-- if so the long legged 5th gear and 200+ BHP on a well sorted Z would make it good for some 140 - 150 MPH --- If of course those speeds were legal in the UK which of course they are not and should never be attempted, ever:rolleyes:
