Still turning heads

I needed to nip down to the Spar earlier to pick up some essential 'engine pull supplies' (i.e. beer, red bull and half-chocolate flap jacks) for tonights Z32 engine pull and I figured I'd take the 280 for a run out, as I've not driven her since Monday. As I got out of the car, some random bloke walks up to me and I know exactly what he's gunna say 'What car is this mate?' then I tell him, he proceeds to tell me he's never seen one before, then tells me how gorgeous it is, then as I walk away when we've finished talking, he pulls out his phone and takes a picture :cheers: I love driving Zs :driving:

I could be wrong but I think the older Z cars attract a lot of attention wherever they are

Good on it I say :D

Awww.... Maybe I look like an un-aproachable bitch then because I was driving it ALL week last week and NO-ONE has come up to ME! :(

Had the same happen to me went and got petrol came out and three people round my car one new what it was the other two had never seen one after showing them round i drove off with a big smile don't you just love these cars :D:D

Derrick

Similar happened to me couple of weeks ago. Went to local supermarket to check my tyre pressures and a chap started chatting to me about it saying he had not seen one for years and he used to have one when he was younger. Like you say its nice when they get the right attention and people appreitiate how rare they are.
Nice to see something different on the roads now and again :)

You find this with most Classic/Rare vehicles, the thing that I owned (well 4 actually) that attracted the most attention where mini pickup's & when I used to have my fully grown GSD in the passenger seat it was a tad embarrassing as people used to point & laugh at us everywhere we went .

Another memory was when I had my Samuri it attracted too much attention & I felt a *** driving it, hence one of the main reasons I sold it.

All great stories. I can honestly say I can NEVER go out in mine (to get petrol, to the shops etc) without someone coming up to either admire it or ask what it is. Most think it is a 60s/70s Aston Martin or Maserati. Some - particularly the younger ones - have never heard of a Datsun. They say: "what - a Daihatsu?" Aaarrgghhhhh . . . . . .
The fact is that is a beautiful, exotic-looking car the like of which will never be seen again.

Well I thought I Was getting that last week in Halfords with a guy looking at it from all angles - but turned out he was sizing the front air dam up for his TR7. oh well.

Well I've had a lot of attention with my 280zx 2 + 2 this Yr. Had several conversations at garages and traffic jams. Was getting pissed off with the number of cars pulling next to me at 50mph etc expecting a race however I was pleasantly surprised with all the thumbs up from the drivers.
I bought my Original 280zx 2 + 2 when I approached the owner as he got out his car. It was the 1st I had seen and I was impressed. My only question was how reliable are they ? He answered Yes and the rest is History 25yrs +

Yes we do have other cars sl320 & S280 but I use the Z to get to work and I love it's handling.

:280Z:

I use both the 280zx and the 300zx to go to work occasionally, but in reality, I drive 50 miles each way to work and back, so it wouldn't be fair, or right, for me to put that kind of mileage on either car every day.

I tend to use sunny days and mostly through the summer. The 300zx has no engine in it now and is running out of tax, due to be SORN, so won't be driving that to work again for a while, lol.

The 280zx is taxed, tested and sat on the drive at the moment, if we get any more sun before the end of the year, it'll get a few more outings, but right now I REALLY need to get a dry day to remove the cam cover and check the valve clearances, there is a distinct 'tap/knock' from the top of the engine, especially on overrun and whilst slowing down in gear.

Mind You I'm lucky in that I make 4 trips to work a week with a round trip of 16 miles. Because I work shifts I get the traffic jam through the Blackwall Tunnel for a 07:00am start !
The other 2 shifts 13:00 or 22:00 are a lot more relaxing and I can fly around

This might sound odd, but I'd give anything to be stuck in a traffic jam in the morning, well sort of, lol. My drive consists of one big long country lane, to 3 different motorways, to some terrible A roads. The country lane starts at my house, so the car is not warm enough to enjoy, the motorways are covered in speed cameras (Not that I speed anyway of course) and the ****** A roads in Leeds are full of pot-holes threatening to damage my wheels and suspension. Hate my drive to work :(

I was waiting for you to mention pot holes !!! - plenty of them down here in London too !!!
Problem is with someone on your tail not always easy to avoid especially if you don't know the road. My trip to work is down straight roads - mind you I have some fun on the roundabouts - most people dont realize that you point a Z and it goes there !! - However I come prepared and expect the unexpected normally passing behind them as they pull out. Mind you my passengers are a bit nervous not appreciating what the experienced driver (nut) behind the wheel is thinking
:D
