Steering Knuckle O Ring

Working on my front suspension and by chance I stumbled upon a diagram showing there should be an O Ring on the top of the steering knuckle(sitting under the strut housing). Mine never had this when I disassembled and I was just wondering if anyone knew what it's purpose was please?

My guess is it's an attempt to prevent water ingress

Can't remember the purpose, but I know MSA stock them.

Thanks chaps, I had suspected water ingress but, I was just curious.

I have an Aldi special box of O Rings so I'll just use one of those
