Spa 6hrs Roland wins a podium

I'm surprised that this subject hasn't attracted more attention !This was the equivalent of a complete season of HSCC races all in one go ! No pause, no two sets of three hours divided just 6 hours of flat out racing in daylight, night, wet and dry on one of the most demanding circuits in Europe if not the world ! Coupled to this a grid of 90 cars of different speeds, meaning that there was always 'debris' on the track to avoid !A real 'Le Mans' type race !Two Datsuns finished and finished well and one was lapping faster than the lead GT40 at the end in the wet and dark !Racing Zs never did get the publicity they deserved in Europe which Nissan reserved for the rallying scene.Look at the racing undertaken in the States and Japan and the results ! It can be done here too and it would be nice for those competing to have a little more recognition.Bravo Les Miroux and Messrs Bamford and Jarman !I wish that next season, more racers come out of the closet as I believe (wait for the crass statement ;) racing proves the car ; rallying proves the driver !

Mr Dirk Swift! now there's a charicter/and a good mate who has always been there for me in all my racing exploits over the years and having swapped his twin turbo this year for a nice modified 240z is looking foward (I think) to a bash in HSCC racing next year. Those of us who compete all have the unsung heros that help us, and without them ,speaking personally, other than just getting the car and gear to the events It just would't happen or be the same without them. So for Spa our team ,MR DIRK SWIFT, SPARKY,CHIEF,RYAN,DANGERIOUS DAVE, Steves boys ED,and BEN ,my wife JACKIE and my 2 girls FIONA and FREYA who has supported me and have been at nearly all of my races over the last 18 years.
Not forgeting top z supporters SEAN and CATHY,
Other top mates are Jason,Jeremy,Martin,Steve,Gareth,Matt,Dave Ashton, Dave Hills and in the past Barry Hudson Spike and Will Galliers a big big thanks to them all. Anybody like to follow on.

Sean, I've been following this thread with interest, thanks for the report and pictures.

Thanks for the kind comments - appreciated but not what my thread is about !

Steve and dave knocked up a car in next to no time and raced for 6 hours flat out, finished (3rd in class) and 21st overall, in front of faster cars :)

This is where the Z scores and if it'd been on a slower circuit (you should have seen the Ford Fairlane and GT40 go), they'd have finished higher still !

All hail to all the Z racers and the back street garage boys led by Dirk Swift !

Dirks' car at Le Mans Classic being stripped to allow the French entrant to run - what a team spirit !

To the right is the mechanic (in blue) we helped from the Spanish Z entrant, in the middle is some bronzed, bald git !

Sean, I'm not going to get drawn into one of those threads which developes into a 'you said this, I said that' situation but you commented on the fact that there was less interest in the 'Thread' than you expected.

I replied letting you know that I was interested and thanks for the info.

You then say that that is not what the 'Thread' is all about!

This is my kind of 'Thread', but I don't always have any other comment than thanks.

:conf2:

Sorry for the confusion then - please don't be interested in me but in the racers and what they've acheived.

And don't get crotchity or I'll knock you 40 points off your F1 score so as to feel better and over-confident all winter !

Mabie there would be more interest in your track day that you did the other day. Check this out, just been offered second driver in some Dutch supercar races next year in a 600bhp V8 star see promo www.ifilm.com/ifilmdetail/2706499 puts an old 240 running in one of the biggest historic races on the calinder to shame ey

Spa 6 hours

Must agree 100% with Dave in order to compete you have to have a very supportive wife/partner/family and a band of dedicated helpers. In some ways Dave and I were the lucky ones at least we didn't have to stand on the pit wall for 3 hours in the pouring rain with no shelter whatsoever.
Being there for the meeting great.. racing on that incredible track in the rain in the dark Awesome. Did you ever see two drivers after a race with bigger Cheshire cat grins. My own personal thanks to the whole team and our many well wishers at the track and Sean for his translation of who Roland is

Guys, I'm being hassled for the drivers' input so that I may include them in my otherwise finished winter magazine article !

So close your eyes and dictate to those wives so that they may email me your race feelings !

An hail to thee - 6 hrs flat out !
