A few months ago I finally got my hands on a 260 2+2 after a long search.... the plan was to get the car fully rebuilt and have earmarked a bucket of cash to do it! However, I am having real problems finding a garage to do the work, I basically want everything done, from the bodywork to the interior and then some. Does anyone recommend a place in the South East I can get my car into so I can actually turn it into the car I've dreamt about for so long! Ideally somewhere I can send it off to and it comes back 100% !

I know of nowhere that can do the whole job compently except posssibly one who probably would'nt be too interested in the trim work anyway. I would suggest you split the rebuild into three, bodywork, engine/transmission and trim. There are individual people out there who will do this although not neccessarily in the south east. Rebuilding a Z isn't that simple and you must be prepared to move your car around for the best results. Bear in mind you will need one hell of a big bucket!

well my opinion for what its worth i use two people for my restoration bits ,fourways in kent "geoff" and mjp"mike". both i find very helpful and able to help and most of all WILLING even if they are not taking your cash(advice is free for once) most of the stuff that i can do myself i order from mike and the specialist stuff gets done by geoff. id like to say that ive been a mechanic for over20 years and im impressed by geoffs workshop and his staff and the willingness of mike@mjp...i wouldn't hesitate recomending either but i must warn you restoring a z aint cheap if you wish to do it right! im sure there are loads of z owners on this site that will tell you the same.

on a plus note; i have never driven a z but the looks and style sold it to me,i bought a 2+2 gutted to the bare shell and started the rebuild ..... i hope to have my first drive in about 6 months... do yourself a favour and go and see both of them...all the best with the z.......paul

Remember there aint no such thing as a Zed specialist, they are just like working on a mkii cortina with a few extra bits, second hand bits best obtained from Peter Mac,new bits from Mike Feeney and his mate Gary Bellamy will be able to do the job you are after,

car sprayer who has done quite a few Zs search for bellamy on home page to see threads about some of his customers coments

Hi net preference, lots of ideas for U now on where to go n wot to do.
However before U start, think carefully on wot U want to acheive as an end result.
Bear in mind the generally low market value of 260 2+2s even in top condition when doing your budget sums.
There are always people out there ready to relieve you of that bucket of cash (including me!) and there are many on this forum who have spent more than one bucket of cash and still not achieved a result they are 100% satisfied with
