Solid Top Mounts ?

Gwyn,
911 rs models come with roller ball top mounts from the factory and are fine on the road.
Just make sure you use strut braces too, so as to keep your shell as stiff as possible and prevent twist!

Thanks Mark

Now decided to do it, already have the strut braces, just need to arrange new location points for them.

Suggestion
Use the Arizona set up without the camber plates and fit the semi solid plastic adjustable camber mounts from MSA through Mike
If you then want to progress to the solid mounts you can do so at a later date
I have a set on my Leda setup front and back, work fine, gives me around 2.5-3 degrees of camber, with little to no noise generated.

I have the kit from Dave aka Arizona Z car - however I have not installed the camber plates as I did not want to cut up the top of the struts. So I have purchased the camber plates from K-Mac in Australia - the front kit has camber and caster adjustments (not sure how much as my zed is still in the body shop and the suspension is here at home with me)

These work with Coilovers or the standard spring setup. Check them out - given the £ to AUD it might work out ok for you.

The pic on their site is of the prototype without caster adjustment - If interested I can take a pic of the unit I have here at home.

K-MAC Datsun

Also note that they now make a rear unit that can add positive camber to correct negative gained when lowing the rear of the S30

Cheers
Mike

The kit has arrived its wicked & I love it  thanks for the link Mike, but I have now decided to fit the plates that come with the kit, I think  .

I feel your pain! Do you know anyone who has the full kit fitted? I'd say go for a ride in their car and it may help you make the choice.Good luck!

Now had advise from 2 well respected guys who race these cars & they say don't fit them to a road car.

how much faster do u want to go round corners ?

what do u think u will gain by fitting them?

a lowered car will of course look great and handle better

how much do u think it will improve your car using the plates?

how was u intending to measure the camber angle?

sorry gwyn to throw a spanner in the works :smash:

Its now been suggested adj the camber from the bottom of the strut instead & that I will need to fit the bump steer spacers but not with the shorter steering knuckles.

Hi Mr G Yeah I know 2 guys who have fitted the whole kit & both say its not for a road car. The one car has been crashed & the other is no longer road registered so no chance of a test ride there :(

SKidd's suggestion seemed good to me but of course it involves buying again.

These cars corner pretty well with lower, stiffer springs and good tyres. Most other mods (apart from stiffer antiroll bars) are for the very serious (competition) or pub talk.

When you fit spacing blocks bear in mind that it takes the steering arm quite close to 14" rims.

Rob this exactly what has been going through my mind, Skidds & Mike from Aus have suggested the same solution & it is a very good one, but then where is this spending going to end !!! have spent a small fortune in the last couple of months, looking another £600 for the top mounts, but suppose this would eliminate chopping the shell about. Already have my rear antiroll bar sorted just got to source a front one now. No pub talk here just trying to build the best 240 I ever had cos its my last one. Honest

Found out the spring rates I knew the one pair where 180lb cos they have it marked on them, we tested the other pair & they are 250lb is that too big a difference between front & rear ?

Update decided at the moment to go the same route as zedhead260 & 240z by fitting custom made billet top mounts into the original rubber top mounts, will see how that works for now, may fit the camber plates at a later date once I've been in another Z that is already fitted with them.

Sounds like a good idea see how the rest of the setup feels before you hack the car up with the weld-in plates.

Re the spring rates what is your take on it? My zed when last on the road was running 225lb both front and rear and that was ok for a road car. I have been/driven a road/race car with 350lb front and 450lb rear with solid camper plates on the top. Noise levels were higher but it handled great - not a daily driver but I would be happy with it on the road.

With my setup I have replace the spring that came with the kit from Dave (AZC, were were 250lb 200lb) with 450lb and 400lb I will put the 400lb in the front and the 450lb in the rear (I don't run a rear swap bar. My zed will be RB power (but NA not the normal Turbo that most guys that RB do) so this is why I went for heavier spring over my mates road/race car as the engine is heavier + my mate has now move up to 550lb front (can't recall the rear he is running now) and the car is now more track than road.

Thanks for that Mike, the set up I have fitted to the car at the moment is tokico illumina's with 200lb 2 1/4" springs all round. The Arizona kit has come with a pair of 180lb 2 1/2" springs & a pair of 250lb 2 1/2" springs so will try them out. I looked at the top mounts in you last post, the price has put me off that idea at the moment as once landed in the uk I would estimate well in excess of £100 per corner, but will keep them in mind for the future as they would save hacking the strut towers about.

Any chance of pics of your billet top mounts?

Will post pics once they have been made hopefully get the machined at work next week, just got to sort out the diamensions over the weekend, they will be very similar to the ones in z club member 240z's recent thread.
