same here. If it does it (and it doesn't appear to be everynight) I just give up for a few hours and go back after about 10 pm and it seems OK then.

Sometimes it locks up or disappears altogether, or I get “page cant be displayed”
Esp annoying when you’ve written a reply and you hit the send button tho
More so now recently but its not that bad being on broadband as it loads fast enough at other times

Go Slow

Its well worth bearing in mind that the server (or cluster) that hosts this site (www.web-mania.com) probably hosts a hundred other sites and each one is going to have its own busy period (usually when folk get home from work or shopping and when they have had their tea)

Russ has mentioned before that web-mania have been hosting a site(s) that has been running some pretty intensive scripts which has impacted on us. Its a trade off really Web-mania are cheap and provide a good service for the pittance we pay them, on the flip side that in turn attracts new customers which in turn if not managed properly will eat away at out server processor time and the bandwidth needed to access the site.

Its well worth bearing in mind that it may be nothing what so ever to do the site or web-mania

Each of us that connects, fight for bandwidth with everyone else that wants to connect (its how the internet works) each ISP only has a finite amount of bandwidth plus the route that your connection takes may go via Istanbul and hop nodes in every continent in the world before it gets to web-mania, think of all of the millions of miles of fibre and copper that your connection is going through and its a wonder it ever works at all.

Finally it may be your own PC that is at fault, thanks to the Bob the builder CD that the nephew just loaded up that wants to hog every millisecond of processor time or that 16 megabyte wallpaper of a Z you have loaded up.

LOL yes Steve.

In all honesty I haven't found the site particular slow at any point, ever :)

We pay £20 for an entire year of hosting with good support, I'd be more than happy to get the basic Athlon spec dedicated server at www.rackspace.net but we go from £20 to £1000 at least a year :)

Not sure there is too much we can do about it, until I get the advertising going on the site and it pulls in £10k a year that way I can't see we have any other solutions...

Oh and I feel your pain about writing a big reply and then finding that the connection is screwed when you go to post it, and have to write all again, it happened to me a lot on my ISDN line :(

would it be better to compose a big reply on word or suchlike and then copy and paste and then if something happens during the posting process you still have the original

Hi,
I'm finding it very slow tonight!....With regard to losing posts, if it's a long reply it's usually best to right click and copy the text before submitting, at least you can then re-post it without delay!
Cheerz,

Hi Russ

I'm no PC/MAC or SERVER wizz but i am in the process of setting up a Web Hosting side line :)
with a very knowledgeable friend who's been running a server himself for over a year now.
Our server is based in the US (cheaper rent)! they maintain the hardware side of things, we take care of everything else :D
It will cost more than £20 a year but unless your really bandwith and space hungry, no where near £1000
besides for THE CLUB, preferential rates would prevail :p
Let me know if your interested and what sort of package your looking for :D :D

toopy : thanks for the offer :) I too run a webhosting company reselling space from Indianapolis :) To be honest the server is settled now with the site installed and the transfer to another server scares me silly :D I don't see much point in moving unless it was a dedicated server or something radically better.

I never see a problem with the site and to my thinking if its ok for me then the weak link can't be the server or backbone its on, maybe its other peoples ISPs link to the backbone(s) that web-mania use? In which case we could move servers and end up chasing the problem from other directions.

I shall add you to my list of web-mania escape options though thanks :)

Heres an idea, if you find the website is unobtainable try visiting

http://server3.web-mania.com/users/zclubnieW/

This avoids using our domain (zclub.net) and DNS and that way we'll know if its a DNS or bandwidth problem (if the site disappears for you totally that is).
