First question on this forum. My new 240z has awful velour covers. I want to replace with black vinyl. Can anyone recommend a supplier?

Thanks - much appreciated

I should have said I have them too - and I like them. Here's what they look like:

If I buy a set - do you think its a job I could do myself (as a reasonable DIY person with basic hand tools?). Would I need to buy foam or anything else to complete the job? Much appreciated

Linked question. Is the steering wheel wooden - and does it respond well to being restored (rubbed down and re-varnished)?

The OEM steering wheel - manufactured by Izumi - was a pressure-formed wood composite material. Basically natural wood fibres were mixed with polyester resins and moulded under high pressure around the steel frame.

If you are careful you can sand the rim down (I'd use very fine wet & dry if I were you), re-stain it and then use a modern polyurethane varnish to seal it. They can come out really nicely if you are careful with them.

Are you sure that the seats are the originals that have been re-trimmed in velour, and not later (260Z?) seats that have been sourced as replacements for split originals? It might pay to make sure they are 1971 seats before you go ahead with buying a re-trim kit for them.

By the way, what's the chassis number and has it still got its Australian 'rego' plate riveted in the engine bay? Would like to see that. It's all interesting stuff. It can help you to pin down the OEM specs and details of your car too, if you are into that...?

The guys on the main Australian forum http://www.viczcar.com/ have already mentioned your car showing up in the UK. They have an interesting thread on the go, which you might like to add to: http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/13773-early-girl-bingo-with-photos/

I've joined their Australian forum - and amazing - I found some history and details on my car. It is a 1971 car, same family until 2014 - and originally sold in Sydney, then moved to Melbourne in 1986. Pleased to see its all good news about it being original - well maintained - and in good nick and no horror stories of renovations. Chuffed. Thanks Albrecht for putting me onto this forum/club

Yes - the kit comes with hog ring pliers to fit it. There's a section on it in this book too which is helpful. http://www.amazon.com/How-Restore-Your-Datsun-Z-Car/dp/1931128022
You can also buy foam inserts replacements too - which I did fit. The whole thing was pretty easy.

And as Albrecht says - check what seats you've got; the kits I think are somewhat specific to the seats.
