Sato san's car

Point taken Ed, Im not qualified to comment on Sato San, so i will move along the platform mate.
Don.

constant air temprature has got to be a must for decent power when generating alot of heat.....hot air= power loss tb's or carbs its bad news.

on a slightly different tact didn't the JT race car make this sort of power with carbs?

At full throttle the I wouldn’t have thought the air was going to stay in the air box long enough to get warm ?

TB's aren’t necessary just about maximum power developed (neither is any form of motor racing) tb's advantage is that they allow an almost infinite amount of user adjustment via a friendly user interface (triples can require loads and loads of different jet settings which can only be done by wizards and mages), they also allow precise fuel metering and atomisation, to a level that carbs just cant provide and in conjunction with direct fire ignition, eliminate spark scatter allowing an engine to rev to a higher potential limit, further more tb's (with the right ecu) are self correcting for environmental variables such as air and water temperature.

And if Sato san wanted cooler air why didnt he pipe air in from infront of the rad, rather than through a cone inside the engine compartment?

Maybe it just looked cool?

I guess when you're eeking 320bhp ever tiny difference adds up, even if it only raises the air by .5 degree? Maybe he found it runs rubbish when he's queueing for the strip and thats why? I'm just guessing as you can tell.

Steve was the heat shield there when the carbs were in place before he changed over to the other side "THE DARK SIDE" sorry set ?
Also he has now changed back to carbs because he said "it sounded like a girls car "
with the Injection system on !!!!! ONLY KIDDING MR KEDDELL

"it sounded like a girls car "
LMFAO -- nice one:p

He's also wrapped his headers so it looks like, as Russ said trying to eek out every ounce of power available.

BTW Dave you asked about heat shields on carbs --- when I was running carbs (my was it that long ago:rolleyes: ), I used a piece of press formed sandwich aluminium shielding from Merlin Mortorsport and bolted it direct to the underside of the manifold. They sell it specifically for just this type of application.

Thanks Steve have now gone down sato's san road have taken my manifold off will weld some mounting points onto it to attach a heat shield will also tape it with exhaust wrap, on my sam used a tab off the manifold studs but used to rattle over the bumps sato methord looks a better option
