Very valid viewpoint Nick and one to take on board but for example my car is a 240 and will be a Samuri but different everything from the ones Spike did. Not a copy at all, very very different car. The idea will be evolution not copying 20 year old technology.nickknox said:

It would seem to an newcomer such as i that an awful lot of the so called greats and even current tweakers (best way of putting it without starting WW3) actually either stole ideas or simply live on hearsay. I see very little in the way of facts as this thread has shown up already. This to its end is a shame because the people that did the hard work dont ever seem get their just rewards!

I am not sure "stole" is entirely fair but certainly "shared" would be.
In anything, music, design, race engineering etc there is always an amount of plagiarism and idea lifting that goes on which has almost become acceptable because it is so commonplace.
I certainly know of current players who share, learn off each other and adopt new approaches because of what they see but in my humble opinion that is no bad thing, it means that ideas evolve, grow and the whole subject goes forward and develops.
The current "tweakers" as you put it may owe something to the people before them that pioneered ideas but the good ones add their own magic, their own development ideas and push the envelope.
Certainly in the last 12 months I have seen plenty of ideas that literally made me stop and think "wow", some from DJ, some from Lawrence, some off the shelf from Kameari, some from the states. All in all these guys are proving that you can get more and more out of an old car - take Skidders' throttle bodies for example, new direction, bit bling, trying something out....oh and beating a new 350Z down the strip
Should Samuri ever surface properly it will not be a faithful rehash of a cam, triple webers and a GDS flamespray exhaust, it will be much more modern, pushing ideas, challenging things..like the V8 for example - done big time in the 80s but now we have all aluminium, fuel injected, ECU controlled engines. A modern take on an old theme.

who are you suggesting as greats / tweakers have stole ideas or lived on heresay ? Name 'em boy or shut up ! This thread hasn't thrown up many facts and I told it wouldn't 'cos those who know don't want ALL the facts public !
Shame indeed....as for just rewards, look at the banner on the club site and see who's been developing over a period of 18 years and is still THE Z MAN for set ups, engines and race management. There are others who have lived off heresay (some still do) and others who haven't proved anything yet but let's be clear about who does and who doesn't steals ideas and lives off heresay ! Libel is just around the corner so let's cool it please !
I said earlier on this thread : I'm sure there is more under the surface but it probably doesn't want to come to light - don't spoil the 'illusion' by the reality and let sleeping dogs lie !

Why would I shell out money to try and out engineer companies like Stillen and fail miserably because I cannot afford the R&D and I do not have their knowledge or expertise ? As I have said, Samuri is not building cars but yes if it did they would not be cheap.

Did Spike do it all himself ? Did he have other mechanics ? Use other peoples' components ? Buy expertise or blag whatever he could ? Think carefully because I already know the answer. All formula one component manufacture is subcontracted but the car is still recognised as a Ferrari or whatever. You are pushing me to reveal things I cannot as a justification and you know it. Foul play.
