Rust Heap

I am just about to buy a complete rustheap 240Z and thought I could do a stripped out race car or rolling restoration (rustoration) car and refurb as I go.

I am told the floors need complete replacements, probably sills and door bottoms.

Is there a panel set available for repairing said areas - I was into Z's about 20 years ago and was told MHB floorpans fit.....any advice please?

I was going to make a GRP tailgate and if I remember correctly, my mate has some GRP doors in his Dads garage I made all those years ago.
Also the bulkhead Drivers side and dash have benn robbed to convert a LHD car so a rusrt donor would be helpful

Help...?

Actual z fitment floor pans are available from various sources, although "pmac" on this forum is definitely someone you should speak to - he sells a nice set of floors and under floor supports/chassis rail extensions. He's on hols this week though. Do a forum search about his floors.

A butchered bulkhead could be more problematic though. All the RHD donor bulkheads tend to make their way into LHD cars.

Exactly how bad is this car? Because that may affect whether there is any economic/practical sense in going forward. Sills, door bottoms, etc, are available, but these cars can rot from the inside and much of those types of repairs require custom fabrication.

FRP Automotive do some great panels and I have a donor shell possibly for sale - email me !

But as Rob says - tread carefully before buying !

Be careful Nick,

Indeed. Further to my previous comment, if it's already been cannabalized to provide donor parts for a LHD conversion, then someone's made a judgement that it wasn't worth saving.

However cheap it might be, it probably isn't cheap enough to offset the cost and difficulty you'd face making something worthwhile out of it.

Better move - save the pennies, get a scruffy project-level Californian import for 4-6k. Might need total restoration but will typically need little metal work. If you are going to use it as a race/track car then I'd say LHD is far less important than if it were just a road car.
