Rear engine crankshaft seal question help please

Hi We are in the process of changing the rear engine crankshaft seal on a 1972 240Z which was leaking. We have a replacement from Motorsport auto/Z store (part no 10-2472) and the new seal is about half the thickness of the one that came out, roughly 6MM compared to 12MM. It fits OK, diameter wise but does this make sense and are we ok to fit the thinner replacement seal, thanks.

Just to expand further the seal which we took out fully filled the recess, whereas the replacement seal of 8MM thickness fits flush with the casing but doesn't fill the recess. Motorsport Auto are saying the seal they sent is the correct Nissan one but it seems odd it doesn't fully fit the recess. Picture attached. Thanks again

looking at them on rockauto, there is a variety of widths, so its probably fine. (although all the ones I've used have been thicker).

Thanks it looks like it should be ok if we push the thinner one as far into the recess as we can, less chance of twisting.
