That is what they did with my chassis rails just welded straight on top of old rusted rail.
It just made things worse, a real rust trap!
It would have taken 30mins to cut out the old rusted bits and then weld, lazy b******s!:(
 
I worked in a bodyshop briefly when I was 18 and I can never remember anyone cutting rust out there. I remember being shown how to weld an arch repair on and we just tacked it straight over the old rusty one. At the time I didn't know any better to question it.
 
think that bad when i was doing my car i found plates pot riveted over rusty hole and the metal plates had blue paint on them think they were cut from a wing or door then the repair was covered in filler and sprayed with underseal wot a bodge all done properly now but frustrating at the time :rofl:
