Radiator Cowling

I have been running a standard 240 Rad. which isn't quite man enough for the job. I have now had another rad. built up with a 'high performance' 3 core element/matrix. Looking at both rads. it appears that they are made for something to bolt onto the back (fan side). I assume that perhaps for some markets a cowling was fitted, is that correct? If so does this help draw air through the whole radiator when stationary? For simplicity I still use the viscous fan  and could fit a cowl ( O/E or homemade ) if it would be of benefit. Any experiences out there?

Some (hot) foreign markets had a plastic fan cowl available - they sometimes crop up on import breakers. Talk to pmac when he gets back from holiday.
