Racing 240Zs

Can anyone tell me tell me who is racing in all forms (hill climbing, HSCC and rallys) 240Zs this season ?
And who is preparing their engines ?

Why do I want to know ? There seems to be a lot of myths floating around as to who is (are) the most consistent source of engine performance and it's something never spoken about yet everyone (almost) wants to mod. their car !

Various names spring to mind who have had successes in the past but who is really producing the good stuff now and what has been their 'track' (ha ha) record ?

hi sean I am returning to the hillclimbs and sprints this year after my season layoff due to my eye injury. I build my own engines and am currently running a 3.1 with very good results both on the rolling road and on the track. I shall also be ressurecting my old white 240 with the 2.8 engine that i built and that will be on the hills as well   ben

For HSCC 240Zs I can confirm that Dave Jarman (DJ Road and Race) prepares Matt Bannister's engine resulting in a very quick car with the potential to win races. Most of the rest are prepared (I believe) by Tim Riley, although HSCC cars have been spotted at Fourways Engineering.

I believe that Tim Riley has been responsible for Vernon Taylor's and Charles Barter's HSCC cars and possibly one other.  He also has been looking after Big Sam.

I have a Tim Riley 2.4 engine in my rally 240Z.  The top rally Z at the moment is Dominic Fratarolli who uses a Dave Jarman 2.9 engine.  Duncan Pearcey and Mike Collins use Duncan's Z Farm 2.8 engines, I believe.  There are a few other rally Z's out there but I don't have any info on their power plants.

For Historic Rallying we have to use period modifications, so engine size and overbore is limited by the MSA Blue Book and the original homologation (or what you can prove was used pre 1975)

Oops, forgot to say that sadly Tim Riley is in the process of relocating himself and his business to New Zealand.  Not much help! <img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>

Competing in Hillclimbs and Sprints this season as always.
Running a 2.8 engine built by Mr Ben Stapley, who as you can see from his post is running 2 cars this season. &nbsp;Just showing off I reckon. &nbsp;
Seriously, his ex-janspeed car is awesomely quick and a very regular class winner.

Thanks Hugh - I think everyone has had a look in on Big Sam during his history !

So, up to date, we have:

Matt Bannister in HSCC by Dave Jarmen
Ben Stapley in Hill Climbs and Sprints by himself
Dominic Fratarolli in rallys by Dave Jarmen
Hugh Myers in rallys by Tim Riley
Duncan Pearcey in ? by himself
Mike Collins in ? by Duncan Pearcey

There are more current Z racers out there - who's got the goods on them!

Hi Sean
&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; I can also confirm that I have had some input into Duncans engine from mid season last year , his engine now runs a DJ road and race, cam , geometry and exhaust mods,
To anyone that may be interested we can help with any L series engines used for road or any form of motorsport
The engines I can now supply have been developed over 20 years of competing in motorsport with my own Z and my customers cars. Working with the same engineer and dyno facility.for this period of time helped develop our 3.1 full race engine that produces just over 300bhp and250ft ib of torque, max torque reached at 4500rpm. It has been interesting building and developing the2.9 rally engine that Dominic is using to good efect in the British Historic Rally Championship and working with Steve Baker my engineer and head man to produce an engine with the low and mid range torque that Dominic demands. &nbsp;
If I can help anybody who is serious about their motorsport then I can be contacted on 01453 833451 &nbsp; &nbsp;All the best &nbsp; Dave Jarman

Thanks Dave

Who else is running - Kevin Bristow, does he do his own engines ?

When I was younger, I'd heard of Fourways, Samuri (Kevin Irons), D Jarmen, Tim Riley and along came Mark Rainer, Ben Stapley and Duncan Pearcy.

Is that the complete list, of whom just Fourways, D Jarmen and Samuri (Kevin Irons) are building customer engines ?

And in the light of no further comments, I can only assume that there remains just D Jarmen producing customer engines that currently race !

Sorry Ben - didn't mean to leave you out. You'll have to blow that trumpet louder !
Who for or will that be next seasons' surprise shoot-out ?

As mentioned before Ben prep's and builds the engine for my Hillclimb/sprint 240Z. &nbsp;
It's pretty quick for a roadgoing car as most of you who have seen it in action will agree.

Ken...

Hi dude,had my lump done by kevin irons (Samuri) about 3 years ago,pushes out between 180-190 at the wheels maybe a touch more,very torqey low down as well,goes like poo off a shovel,Eats cossis,although i aint come up against &nbsp;a chipped one yet,also some tit in a 350 TVR got the shock of his life a short while ago,thinking of changing to something a touch quicker,might give ben a go,havnt heard of Samuri doing a lot lately,if interested i have a brand new ported,flowed,camed and hardend valves,E88 head just done by Burton performance,Snip at 500 sobs

I was emailed by Geoff Jackson of Fourways Engineering who asked me to supply the following names:

Vernon Taylor 240Z &nbsp;HSCC
Clive Fosket &nbsp;240Z &nbsp;HSCC
Vincent Budd &nbsp;240Z &nbsp;Sprints and hill climbs

And so,

With such a diversity of entered motorsport by all current competitors, isn't it time that each year at the beginning of the season, a list of all competitors was published.
And at the end of the season, a results page and perhaps a trophy awarded to best in competition field, best newcomer, best evolved racer (since the previous season) ?

One year we had a photo of each competitor (with his car) but was never continued.
These people give us great publicity and have surely helped in creating the more wider acceptance of our cars in the classic scene - payback time and it would look great in our magazine !!!
Mister Burns ? Kathleen ?
