Porsche engine

DJ, you'll have to have one hell of a nose job to fit all that in and cooling her will be a bitch !
Abas, idea is original - haven't heard of anyone fitting a later Jag engine in and agreed that my and any 'special' engine fittings are mega bucks ! Still prefer to keep a Nissan in line 6 under the bonnet - makes beautiful music !

How about an earlier XK engine in a z? The same as an e-type?. The z was supposed to have been influenced by the e-type anyway?

Didn't know about the varied field in HSCC racing

Also a Maserati Merak out there with the rest of the mid-field contenders - the guy used to own a 240Z. Whatever possessed him to change?

Engine transplants - only two ways to go. Tried and tested small block Chevy (with the modern TPI fuelling for super smooth horsepower and gobs of torque if you want to be trendy and up-to-the-minute) or modern Japanese straight six, Skyline, Supra etc. So much available for the latter options that tuning would be a doddle (but very expensive). The Z32 V6 is a nice idea, but is NOT proven to reliably give big horsepower and would generate volcanic heat in the confines of the 240Z chassis. Porsche V8 - waste of time...

What an incredible amount of work for ....unemployed electric light-bulb producers !
Just proves how cheap these cars are over there to be used as a base for this !

Makes me wonder what engine conversions have been used in the past !

Hi,
What about a BMW V8!...There's plenty around nowadays and you're talking 4.0L 286bhp or 4.5L 329 bhp...Must be some in the scrapyards by now!

So anyone for slot racing scale1 ????

Give it 20 years we might all have electric ( or fuel cell or something) engines in our z's, if they are to remain in use.

Try as I might I cannot find anyone who can resurface a flywheel as good as that!!!

problem with the engines mentioned...jag, bmw, porsche is the weight of them
...reckon it would upset the balance somewhat

apart from the sbc Chevy already mentioned...
i'd favour a TVR griffith engine with fuel injection - good for 320bhp

another american alternative is the GMC 4.3 v6 turbo...very compact and lots of power ...approx 280bhp in mild tune/low boost
takes the GMC Syclone pick-up truck from 0-60 in approx 4.7 seconds
only problem would be electronics but a decent MOTEC set-up should sort that out

Hi,
That's a poor specific hp output for a turbocharged engine of that capacity!

yes.....but only running low boost
+ it's the torque that counts
- how else could a heavy pick-up out-sprint pretty much anything ....even in the wet?
including the usual supercars, evos, scoobs etc ....

note: some of these 'Syclone' trucks are running 10-second quarters in the US
...which is seriously rapid

how can you tell i'm a big fan of them....
;)
:D

Lets find one, U R talking about exclusive ride, no?

The Nissan V12, basically a melding of 2 inline 6's was ready for 1969 when Motoharu Kurosawa took the checkered flag in the R382. Environmental concerns killed the program that year, but it didn't really matter, Nissan just brought the Z cars to the GP and won three years straight starting in 1971. :D :D :D :D

Hi,
Talking of pick up trucks, Nissan make one for the US market called the Titan, with a 5.6L V8 petrol engine, producing 305bhp!
Car & Driver magazine recorded 0-60mph in 6.9 secs in the auto,5030lb crewcab version!
