Honest question this

Ok, who on here has a one track mind?

Not a secs type questions either b4 them mods start their pm-ing lol ;)

But the type that involves the Zed scene - like from a young peeplet, all you did was to ZZZZZZZZed? (But who didn’t lol)

I’ve jumped from bikes to cars to bikes to cars way to many times, but I’ve never had one passion as such, it was either a Honda or Ford or Fiat etc etc.

Sometime I think it would have been good to follow just the one ideal/passion.

So can anyone on her say they is a Zed person through n through?

From a youngen to Zed ?

MrF n Albert excused from answering cos they iz obv like sticks of rock lol ;)

:S30: iv had an obsesstion with Zs since i was 14 i used to do stockcar racing and a mate of my dad had a 240z it wone everything and everyone wanted it, i thought id love one as a road car and when i was 17 i swaped my xr3 escort for a 280zx and never looked back and iv had quite a few since then im now 33. does that count??????

It All Began With

An article on FFA 196L in the Sept. 1986 issue of Classic And Sportscar, the car looked amazing, said I'd own one someday, :)

Tim

Shocked n stunned, shocked n stunned

N there was me thinking everyone tried/wanted a little bit of something else.

Maybe I just cant decide what I want lol

Hats off, most impressed :D

I first saw one in about 1988 (I was 20) when a mate of mine ran the SEZ group and turned up at my house in a lovely blue 240 (RPG480L to those who know it). I've wanted one ever since and managed to buy my 260 four years ago. I hope to have one for a looooong time!

Not strictly so -

Started with Triumphs I could afford - Heralds, Vitesse etc. Moved on to TRs (a 2, a 4 and a 6), had first 240Z and abandoned it for a Lotus (brief and definitely no infatuation) and then various Americana (my F*** period) - 2 Mustangs, a Camaro, a GTO, before realising I missed the 240 but loved the Chevy small block - 240Z V8 was born and I've never looked back. So only became a stick of rock less than 30 years ago...

Believe it or not there are other mini passions in my life - collecting the guitars I couldn't afford when I was a kid and, currently, '80s pinball machines. It's not all cars here.

Rock on, that’s what we need, more hybrid Zed !!

You must write your story in the Hybrid Zed section some time  (Maybe take a few chapters from your book ;) )

I don’t feel so bad now, at least I isn't the only one with other passing/present passions :D I saw the car/shape less then 2 yr's ago, yet others have know it for 30 odd or more  I is not worthy

Hi,
I first saw a 280ZX back in 1982 and bought one in 1986!....Have since had various ZX's on and off since!...I do like lots of other makes of car though!
Cheerz,
JEZ

bikes, bikes and more bikes, then the odd car then back to bikes, the odd curry n women mixed up with it (eeewww) now a Z after seeing one in the mid 80's and having a tad more cash in my pocket and bored with modern cars i had a choice it was going to be an E type roadster or a 260Z. The 260 was a more sensible option and most certainly less of a dent in the bank account. So you could say my interest surfaced in the last two years.Mind you i'm just about to become 100% bikeless for the first time since the age of 6.:(

Other obsessions

Hmm - Car wise I've only been 'Z' obsessed since Bromley Car show just over 3 years ago when I saw the Z Club stand and one particularly shiny red 280 ZX targa in beautiful condition - up to that point I'd always dreamed of owning a Mark III Jensen Interceptor - having drooled over them since my late teens

But since that Bromley show it's been 280 ZX's (currently have 4) and not much else - although my wife owns a VW Bug and a Celica GT4 - which are nice enough and fun to drive - but style wise I'm hooked on the Z's - looking to treat myself to a 300 ZX TT in the New Year for my 40th (not that it needs justifying)

Only other real obsession has been collecting Vinyl records - started at 13 and never really stopped - literally thousands of the things - mailnly Soul and Jazz - have 6000+ LP's , 4000+ 12" singles and too many 45's to ever get around to counting them all - but strangely enough I haven't got anything by
'The Datsuns' -

Question : Has there ever been an LP sleeve featuring a Z - somehow doubt it

Saw my first Z (a 2602+2) when I was 14 (1978) and another reminder Zs when a friend bought a tatty one 10 years later. I had a Celica which I immediately sold, I joined The Z Club (1989) and bought my first 240Z - a green and silver one a few months later.

Zeds are now firmly in my blood - they, the club and its' members have given me so much (and cost some i t must be added) that I hope to continue (will continue) the 'marriage' until I die !
Dream car - Muira - get out, enjoy and afford car - 240Z ! All the other Zs / ZXs offer different benefits and all merit ownership ( and I'm on my way to owning 'em all :) !

I wish I could do more for the club and this is the only UK contact I retain - most if not all my friends are Z owners !

Zeds......everything else is just waiting !

Sad ? Yeah, but I have a close family and other projects.......hobbies ? Just sad - Zeds, or more correctly the stories and the current enthusiasts !

Bikes, since i was 16, didnt pass the car test til i was 22, didnt see the need.

cars were winter transport, then had an interest in jags/diamler/vanden plas v12's bought a rough (hand painted) 280zx 2+2 good body, bloke ran out of money when it came to paint it :D .
ran around in that in primer for months-got married:( , car went into storage for a sensible family car. got divorced:) started half heartedly to restore the zed, bought another for spares, chopped the roof off & put a T-top in (spares car turned out to be better than my old one)

various projects kept the zed on the back burner for 8 years:( plus a crippling industrial accident.
finally got it down to my workshop to repaint it & a chance phone conv with that bugger Ken Chelton meant i bought the Kaminari.
which will, honestly it will, be on the road soon, time/funds new workshop allowing. (where is the silent prayer smilie?)
all through this i've had bikes & they still are kinda my 1st love, its a biker thing, if i have to explain you wouldnt understand!

First got into Z's after getting an apprenticeship at my local Nissan dealer back in 1980, A+B Motors. We even had a fleet of Datsun 1200 loan cars, now that was a sight! I even remember customers nearly fainting when they were told that to replace a rear tyre on their Z31 turbo, it would be £260, each! Early low profiles were very expensive.
Our first Z was owned by Gill, a 1978 260Z 2+2, bought back in 1989!
Then she moved on to a 1984 Z31 turbo which had some upgrades carried out, which was kept for around 5 years.
I on the other hand, bought my1979 260Z 2 seater back in 1991, ran it as a daily driver for a year and then ended up doing an 11 year restoration and twin turbo conversion etc, etc. I do not want to get rid of it for any reason!
Also have my modified Cherry turbo, which is just about to hit the streets again, after a re-shell and more performance mods.
A Kawasaki Zephyr 750.
A Suzuki GT 750A.
A Raleigh Chopper Special Edition.
A G+S fibreflex skateboard, with ACS 651 trucks and fireball wheels!
A 1978 Gorgar pinball machine(1st talking pinball)
And the daily driver, Honda Civic type R!

I need much more space!
Mark R.

"I'd always dreamed of owning a Mark III Jensen Interceptor - having drooled over them since my late teens"
Hi,
Me too!....I would still like a Jensen Interceptor, but a ZX is much cheaper to buy and fuel of course!

"I even remember customers nearly fainting when they were told that to replace a rear tyre on their Z31 turbo, it would be £260, each! Early low profiles were very expensive."

I remember having to buy four Dunlop Denovo tyres for my 280ZX at £540 for four!...a lot of money back in 1986!

Have only been driving for the last 4 years - left it very late to learn (36 !!)

First car I bought was off a neighbour - the week before my test - saw him cleaning his Suzuki Vitara JLX ready to put it in the Trader - did a deal on the spot and I hadn't even taken my test !!

This same neighbour spent 7 years restoring a Mark II Jensen Interceptor - ground up restoration - looked superb when he finished - but after working on it for 7 years in his garage he lost interest and only finished it off so he could sell it !!

He only sold me the Suxuki coz he couldn't get his teenage kids to share his off road 4 x 4 interest - He's now driving around in a Focus C-Max - Horrid thing - Company car !!

Gives me the occasional sideways envious look at the Z's and the Celica lined up on my driveway .....

Had an infatuation with MG's until I owned one or two then quickely realised their shortfalls, same with triumphs (note small t) owned a TR6 and a TR7 (ouch)
Loved an original Mk 1 RS2000 done in full Olympic blue livery but vandels trashed it when it was in for some bodywork.
My Zed facination really started about 3 years ago when I was looking at using a classic as a company car (tax breaks) and a friend suggested looking for a Zed found the right one and never looked back, twas love at first sight and I now realise what I have been missing all these years. Dont drive it as an everyday car anymore as I have moved jobs.

Ever Since I can remember

I have been into Zeds and my 240z since I was about 7 years old when I used to sit in between the seats when my dad had my car (In standard trim). I have never really seen a car that looks better, maybe apart from an ac Cobra, It has always been my main Hobby but I have also been through a few Bikes Kawasaki KMX 200, Kawasaki Zepher 750, Zx6R great Bike, but best Bike was 1200 Bandit tuned I wish I'd never sold it but Never mind I can always buy another later on. I'm also into Carp fishing don't go enough though.
Now my wife is also a Zed Nut too!

Nick..

Has there ever been an LP sleeve featuring a Z - somehow doubt it
280ZX owner Dean Jones was front man for a band (thrash metal if I remember the right terminology; or maybe it was death metal  ). They had an album planned called "The Devil Drove (or perhaps stole) my Datsun" :)devil: ) which was going to feature his 280 on the cover. I've got a 12" single of their TOTP performance with K.L.F. (3am Eternal) where they are billed as E.N.T. and Ken at ZXS seems to remember that the word "Noise" featured in the band name. Don't know whether the album was ever released...

More research required - Dean, where are you now? I know where the car is!

Now we're off topic!

A little bit of Googling and I found:

The KLF's art terrorism at the Brits 1992

The evening begins promisingly. Assorted music biz luminaries gather together in London's Hammersmith Apollo for the annual posho knees-up. The KLF are scheduled to kick the show off with '3am Eternal'. As it happens, they kick it into orbit. The fact that The KLF are here at all is momentous enough: Jimmy Cauty and Bill Drummond have spent the past five years terrorising the music industry. By 1991, however, they're the biggest-selling singles band in the world, so a Brits performance is in order. '3am Eternal' has been their big hit of the year, but the rendition tonight is not quite that version. This time the band are joined by noisy death-metallers Extreme Noise Terror, prompting ageing composer Sir George Solti to walk out. Just as well Drummond opts to fire a machine gun at the crowd; the original plan had been to cover them with sheep blood.

So, not TOTP :)o ) - and the band was then known as Extreme Noise Terror. My afterthought for "Death Metal" was right too - I remember the performance leaving the audience in stunned silence.

Gonna search for the album now - back later if successful.

A little E.N.T. death metal sample for you:

http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Pit/2068/Extreme-.zip

(I absolve all responsibility for inflicting this music on you - it is NOT representative of my regular personal taste). This is a quote from a review of the album Damage381 from which I think this track is taken:

"...if you're in the habit of casually eviscerating kittens over a recreational snakebite, and consider Sepultura to be an MOR lounge act, then 'Damage 381' could well be the answer to your prayers..."

This is Dean Jones from Ipswich - another famous name to add to the list of celebrity Datsun owners:

http://www.artofthestate.co.uk/Punk_photos/Extreme_Noise_Terror_singers.htm

Can't find the "Datsun" album or even the track on one of their albums, so I guess it never went into production or was just a temporary product of Dean's fertile mind...

O.K. thread hijack over! Sorry  .
