Hello Peeps.
Just on with another sequence in the restoration / renovation / recouperation / revitalisation / rejeuvenation / Re whatever... Call it what you like. prefer the term 'saving one from the scrappers' my self.. {or Sean}.

I am about to remove the engine from the Z so I can get into the engine bay and fix in some of theose peddles you get on kids cars.. man turbo that sort of idea.. before I do however I would like to tackle the cylinder head.. The books says take the special tool.. {I am not getting THAT dirty} and undo the Allen headed bolts.

Okay so I need a tool with a head called Allen.. You guys have more than has not done this little task many times before. So what is the size, where do I obtain one from etc etc..

All help appreciated.. if you are reading.. have you got a decent 6 branch manifold in your pocket? The one for the Janspeed style 6 into 2?

thanks... back later.

Define decent !

Better than standard ?
Good up to ??? bhp ?
Perfect for a standard bore size engine up to ???? cc ?
Road sepc ?
Race spec ?
Stroker spec ?
Obviously RHD 'cos some are better than others depending upon side of steering column.
Budget ?
Engine preparation ?
Final exhaust system to be fitted ?
Internal diametre of said system ?

Decent................

Bloody ell I dont ferkin Know.... Its been on the car years and its rusty as hell.
Looks like a 2 inch system. standard road use. RHD, Standard engine. decent means not full of holes.. if it helps I have a Janspeed exhaust that is going back on the car. looks the same as I have seen on many Z's.. I will take a picture.

What about the tool I need for my head bolts?

You need a 10mm Allen key socket & start from the outer ones first & working to the middle last.
Fitting it back start at the middle & work outwards.
You can get a socket from anywhere that sells sockets:D, any motor factors or Halfords.

S30 heads are very straightforward - just don't let the cam chain go loose (resulting in tensioner problems).

Also when taking the head off make sure the chain doesn't fall into the engine, you need to wedge it with the right tool as once it falls in its a pain, or make a tool. (once the chain falls in, the tensioner most likely will fall in too and you'll end up having to take a lot more apart then what you probably intended to.)

This is what the tool looks like:

out of wood and about 3/4 '' thick

Many Thanks all...
Getting back to the 6 branch manifold thing.. I could repair the one I have but its a tad thin.. the manifold is 6 into two. outside diameter of the pipes that couple up to the exhaust is 47mm.
If any one has a good old one flying around then please let me know..

This is mine it has done me proud for 25 years & is made out of my mums old ironing board.

There is no way the official tool shown by MrG would have fitted.
