Nissan 432 S30 in UK

I'm bumping this from the beginning of the year as it appears that this car is now having a full resto via Fourways. They've posted a slideshow on Facebook of the shell going off for soda blasting.

Interestingly, as I've asked about on FB, the shell has some incongruities - the car is a 1970, but the rear valance is post-73, i.e. 260Z/280Z/S31Z style with the different bumper mount points, vent slot, and the big holes for the federal bumper shockers. Plus it's rear quarters are vented (like I speculated about earlier in this thread) and are missing the bumper recesses on the side - like a later US-market 260Z or 280Z.

Am I imagining it, or did I see it mentioned somewhere Alan that this car had suffered a tap up the bum at some point? Either way, it looks like its been repaired for some reason with much later panels all around the rear. I wonder if the present restoration will encompass addressing these issues. If it were mine, having spent the kind of money required to source such a car, I would most definitely want the shell to be correct for its year for originality and associated value reasons.

No, just saying if you're dealing with a six figure car, something like the shell having been previously repaired with (very) incorrect panels should be an issue. And a value impediment. It's a 432 - I'd say originality matters quite a bit in that context.

If it gets restored as is, and the owner is happy with that, fair enough and not my problem. If I had that kind of money (to buy in the first place and then have Fourways completely rebuild), I'd be getting it fixed.

No, the 432 that had experienced a significant rear-ender in the past is the red one that is for sale in the USA. Different car.

I wrote this in January at the beginning of this thread:

There's lots to be said about this particular car, but I'm going to keep my powder dry for a little while to see what pans out...

...and that was even before I'd seen it in the metal. I've seen it in the metal several times since then, and still think it's best for me to keep mum. It'd be a different matter if it was up for sale, but it isn't.

That'll be a discussion between the two parties once the car has been fully assessed after soda blasting, I should imagine...

One hopes....however, one would expect professional guidance despite the final decision resting with the owner.

I saw this at Fourways back in June and then again in October when I collected my car. It's unfortunately been involved in an accident at some point, and previously repaired to a questionable standard. Looked like it got rear ended with a new rear end welded on (as you suggested Rich), I believe the current over is getting the whole car overhauled and sorted. I hope so as well as it would be cool to see a 432 being used in the UK :-D

I hope to be able to see it in public as it left the factory - now THAT would be a challenge worthy of the car. It would also garautee the investment so far.

Having looked very closely at the car (and made a technical assessment report for the owner) I don't agree. There is no visible damage to the original rear floor, spare wheel well and rear suspension/diff mounting area and no evidence that it has been pulled straight in the past.

All evidence in my opinion points - quite simply - to major repair after serious corrosion on the back half of the car, the floors and part of the front end of the 'shell. This matches up with the known history of the car in Japan too.
