Ahhh, that's not that bad. They've even bothered to put colour on a lot of it. Mine's just covered in flaking off underseal. Only a few bits that NEED doing.

Blot, just had a quick look at some of the photos and it seems ok to me. The welds look strong - my 240Z had loads of patches and most were bolted on !!!!!

I decided to sort it and the car was off the road for 4 yrs!

My first reaction is that someone has spent a lot of time on it and if it's strong and reasonably tidy use the car next summer and see what you think then.

Thanks for your input, Ok, Ive just purchased a mig as ive got a MK2 jag that i am going to sell and it needs a couple of small dead easy welding jobs. My plan for the ZX now is to repair the O/S/R chassis leg, N/S sill and a little patch on the O/S/F inner wing, Dress up some of the previous welding and put it in for an MOT, The cars insured so i'll tax it and smoke around in it for 6 months and see how i get on with it. I know im going to love it as i do now with it just sitting there! And being me it will end up having a full structural rebuild over next winter providing things dont change for me as ive just had a serious cancer scare and also ive got plenty of time to source the panels etc that it is going to need. Sean on here has recommended an Ace restorer in France and i'm pretty certain that if i go ahead with it the cars going there to be done properly. I don't really care about what the cars worth long term, A ZX will never fetch Z money but i know if it's rebuilt i'll want to keep it and it really did'nt cost me a lot in the first place, I'm really looking forward to getting to know this car more! Cheers.

I think you are approaching this the right way...

Patch it up for MOT standards and drive around for 6-12 months. See if you "gel" with the car, who knows it might not be what you expect it to be especially after having a R33?

I see that you are already aware of the market value of the S130's. If it doesnt bother you that restoration costs are going to far exceed what the car will be worth, then we look forward to a restoration thread from you. After all classic car ownership isnt always an investment from an economic perspective..

....talking of economics, looks like you be sending our valuable British £ over to Euro land (for restoration) to subsidise the french economy ?:smash:

Haha, I dont care where my money goes if the works to a high standard! The main thing i'll miss about my R33 is the 300BHP at the hubs! It;s on Fleabay if you fancy a gander.

hi blot had a look at your pic at first i thought oh my god :eek: but on closer inspection the welding that has been done dose'nt look to bad just needs tidying.if you do decide to fully restore to a high standard it may cost you more than the car is worth at todays prices, mine cost me just over £5000 bearing In mind nearly half of that was on the spray job,but now i have a car that is rust free and probably better than new,i haven't done it for what it would be worth when done otherwise i wouldn't have done it .BUT i do believe the ZXs will have their day:cool:
