my new car

The Celica ra 28 gt was the only car in the range to have the spec bumpers also the special edition model 385 painted black.

Many thanks...for some reason, I thought over-riders were only a North American addition....so why didn't we have them then in Europe on the non-dumbed-down, top-spec S30 ?

At the risk of digressing too far on Hedgehogdodger's new car thread...

The over riders were in the factory R-Drive parts lists - complete with part number - so anyone could have ordered them as an extra cost option (same as the situation in Japan) had they even been aware of them. Why weren't they fitted as standard? Well, you could ask that about stopwatch clocks, passenger footrests, 8-track stereos, magnesium wheels, headlamp covers etc etc.

I'm sure there was always a certain amount of juggling going on back in Japan, trying to find a balance between content and cost. I doubt that - as far as the UK was concerned - Botnar's franchise was all that bothered about over riders. Any few bob he could knock off the cost price was probably welcome.

Applying your reasoning about costs, the fact that the USA had the 'cheaper version and over-riders make the car longer for shipping - I'm surprised the USA got them at all ! Thanks.

Perhaps to standardise production for ALL markets both JDM and export.
