Manx International Rally

There are 55 Cars in all three categories entered for the Historic Section of this year's Manx Rally which runs on 28th-30th July. This is a Tarmac rally on closed roads on the Isle of Man.

Unfortunately Dominic Frattaroli and Wyn Thomas are the only 240Z entered, up against 3 Porsche 911's in a slightly depleted Class C4.

We also expect Dominic to be going for the overall win, head to head with the quick Escorts of David Stokes and Jeremy Easson.

For tarmac rallies the 3 categories are seeded together (on gravel the older Category 1 cars run first on the road). Dominic and Wyn are seeded 5th behind the two Category 1 911's of 2004 champions Steve Smith and Dessie Nutt and the two leading Escorts.

Event website is mir.co.im and the results are usually available live throughout the rally.

Thanks for the update Hugh. It would be great to see Dominic do well on this rally. I went over to spectate on the Manx a couple of times in the late 70's and saw one of my old heros Tony Pond win in a TR8.

The sound of Dominic thrashing his 240 through the narrow streets and harbours will be fantastic.

He was very quick last year but never quite made up the time that he lost in the fog of the first night!

Let's hope he gets it to the finish! His score so far this year is 1st, 3rd, and three times "did not finish"!

Sorry that we are not going to be there but Debby tells me that I have already spent August's pocket money, let alone July's!! Maybe next year.....

Unfortunately the conditions were awful for this year's Manx, rain and fog!!

Dominic & Wyn were very well placed at the end of the first of three days but crashed out on the first of Friday's stages.

Understandably, Dominic is a bit fed up after four retirements in a row in a season that started off so well with a win and a 3rd. He is going to take a break for the rest of the season, hopefully returning for next season with a new car, or maybe for the RAC in November.

This means that there may be no British Z's on the Tour of Flanders in September.

Debby & I should be back for the Trackrod in October and then maybe the Somerset Stages later that month.

Wyn was better placed than Domonic, he wasn't even in the car !

Sorry, I had not noticed that!

Co-driver is listed as Dorian Evans.

You had better take over the reporting, Nigel, as you are better informed.

Pretty lurid accident? by all accounts. Approach speed into crash approx 120mph, crash around 80mph. Broke the steering rack in half.

How difficult is that!

Comment by Mike Wilds, a former Grand Prix driver after the Manx:-

"I have the utmost respect for these guys. I thought I could drive a motorcar, but I never realised just how complex this sport is. I'm gob smacked." Mike Wilds – with 40 years of racing under his belt - on his first experience of rallying.
