L28 Top end tap

So I'm new to the 280zx and the L engine, but the engine has a top end tap, like a noisy tappet. It's not there at idle as far as I can tell, but as soon as I start to accelerate it comes in. I was hoping it might be a sticky lifter or something and so today have flushed the engine and done an oil and filter change, but nothing has changed. Before I take the top of the engine apart though, I wondered if I was just being picky and that tap is supposed to be there? lol

They don't have hydraulic lifters just mechanical adjustable rockers. My 'tappets' rattle and did on my old car too, however it's not just one.

You need a workshop manual, feeler guages and spanners.

Depends how loud it is. If there is no noise then is the time to worry!

lol, it's not particularly loud, it sounds a lot like the noisy lifter(s) on my 300zx engine and is more than likely a valve clearance issue or something. I guess if it's not something anyone can jump out and say 'oh it's just x, don't worry about it' then I need to investimigate, lol.
