Or rather my 240Z did! I have to say it was a bit of a surprise considering some of the absolutely wonderful Zeds I've seen over the last couple of days. However, somebody obviously liked my car - the two wax coats, numerous sessions with Meguiar's Quik Detailer and obsessive drying off with a towel between rain showers paid off!!
The story goes that on Sunday morning, two of the JAE's official photographers took an interest in my car while I was chatting to Steve Kiddell (who's a nice bloke and has a wonderful car!). When I went over to see what was going on, Kerry, my fiancee, was busy tidying up inside the car so they could take some interior shots. They took some of the engine bay too (even though I felt somewhat embarassed about them seeing my car's stock engine considering I was parked next to Mark Rayner's 260Z with its epic twin turbo L28 on display!), and we chatted for a few minutes - for some reason they were interested in mine because it was fairly standard. I think the fact that on the Sunday my car was the only bright red 240Z may have helped get their attention as well (there were two fantastic red 240s there on Saturday - one of which, EKP 307K, won the Club's Best 240Z - I voted for it for one!).
Anyway, they went off without really saying why they had been taking the photos - I assumed they might find their way onto the JAE website. Fast forward to the afternoon - around 3.30ish we were just getting ready to leave when a woman official came over to myself and Steve Kemp and started to ask if we knew the owner of a 240Z with the reg. PLF... she got that far and I stuck my hand up and said "me" - it was then that she told me that my car had been awarded the Best Classic Car Award for the whole show!!!
It was a shock and a half for sure! It was mine and Kerry's first Billing and some of the other cars were such works of art that I couldn't have imagined getting a prize! It is a really nice trophy as well - all glass with the JAE logo and text stencilled on it. I'll stick a picture of it in my gallery for anyone interested.
I will also be adding the photos I took around the stand over the two days - haven't had a chance to look at them yet, but hopefully there will be some good ones.
Anyway just wanted to share with people - I'm still feeling quite chuffed!!
