..............the demise of the Z club paper magazine seen an increase in website activity, i.e. more paid up club members logging on to read the online magazine etc?

Just interested, not looking to start a war............

Well I was one of the early exponents of the movement to drop the paper magazine due to the unavoidable fact that it was in danger of sinking the club financially in to oblivion. Jakko was doing the magazine then as part of his day time job at the printers and it was superb IMO. I wrote a reasonable number of features over the years for it. Both under Steve Kiddells time and Mandy Heathcote too.
Now Jakko does the magazine for the club and he still does a brilliant job.
The club is very very fortunate to have such a talenrted member able and willing to do this.
Personally I dont really get on too well with the online version . That might be down to my poverty spec computer and my apalling PC skills tho. Or it might just be the "me " bit... loosing interest in the Z club in general.
All IMHO
And Im not looking to start a war either. Them days are long gone for me.

Cou-cou - anyone mention war-gaming ?

i think the online mag is fabulous.....but if it wasn't here, I wouldn't have less interest and having it hasn't changed my activity here either.

Conclude yourselves.

I don't think the paper mag and website activity are directly linked. From my dealings with members enquiries people are mainly from two camps - PC users and non PC users.
There are still a lot of people in the Z scene who don't want to use PCs, and they miss the paper mag. The Mag was brilliant but cost too much and info was slow and late.

So if someone is not 'into' the internet then losing the mag is not going to temp them onto the site. There are a lot of members who just don't want to get involved in internet 'small-talk' but others love it.

I use the site for information mainly, before we had an active site I got some info from the mag and some from Local Meets, or a call to Mr F. I think perhaps the Local Meets have suffered because of the internet.

I can't quantify any of the above it's just my perception.

The ZClub enhances my pleasure of Z ownership and provides more driving opportunities e.g. Trackdays, Japfest, Le Mans Classic, Gurston trial day, Santa Pod (only done one day so far) etc.

I'm quite good with my computer but I don't think I've looked at the on line version of the mag in months, I still read through the old mags I got with my car though.

I just prefer reading something I can actually pick up and feel, Plus you can't take the computer to the toilet with you can you lol.

I will say I do take the lap top with me from time to time as I'm then guaranteed peace lol. I am not in the club for the mag but it does serve as an added bonus. However we do only have the mags from 08 and nothing new for 09 I appreciate everyone is busy but we did get a teaser back in the autumn which has not been followed by a mag. So all in a good job the mag is not my sole interest on the site.

I think perhaps the Local Meets have suffered because of the internet.

Am I still alone in believing that a Local Group won't survive without a regular newsletter? Many of my SEKZ Local Group members are not regular computer users and some wouldn't know where to point a mouse, let alone type in URLs...

I provide a monthly newsletter to subscribed members which reports on meetings I/we have attended and provides all the dates I know for the coming month. Anyone in the S.E. and Kent area (or outside if you are keen) is welcome to subscribe and receive the newsletter - it is only 2 - 3 pages, but I'm always open to external contributions by simple Word file and a few attached photos. It is not, and never will be, a magazine

Due to increased postal and printing costs, the yearly subscription is going to be £7.50 per year from 1st January. Old rate of £5.00 until then...you get 12 issues and will always be welcome at the Halfway House or other local venues.
