Guess the manifold...

Cool,

Yeh those dimensions ring a bell, I'll check Tuesday though. The end of my Y piece seems a little different on the bend to yours though. Is yours stainless???

I'm tempted with ceramic coating still, reckon it'll be about £140. But I think I'll try some £20 paint first and see how that goes :D

Uploading these for me own benefit

email down so can't post 'em to my works address  Yes Russ, it's stainless.

Bummer...

...I have just gotten off the dog with Janspeed.

They have two in stock, from the maninfold to back box for £212.76 ex VAT but only in mild steel.

They have no plans to fabricate any in stainless as it is too costly and demand isn't that great.

Bugger :(

Hmmm, for similar money I think Fourways do a stainless sytem. Could buy the mild steel and get it ceramic coated, but I do wonder about the longevity of that, and it's throwing money at a janspeed.

We should probably just get our thinking caps, get some pics of the janspeed system and have someone make it for us. Lots of companies about to do it.

Either that or get a pipe bender, some stainless, and I'll get them welded up lol. Straight through pipe would sound nice, difficult for the MOT though.

Pipe benders and stainless sounds good, I know Powerflow can do that kinda thing but they have mixed reports.

what doyou mean by MOT failure, Noise or emissions?

A 240/260 will be exempt from emission testing.

Noise :) Straight pipes would be very loud :D

I'll chat to my mates out the bodyshop see what they say, rather than make of a hash of it we maybe better off getting one made :)

How loud?

I is coming from Scooby fraternity where 1st mod you do is completely decat the system and some cars have 4" straight through zorsts. My last Scoob had a custom zorst with a 5" exit on the back box

Surely a smaller bore couldn't be louder than them :conf2:

Take the exhaust off your car, then listen, then that's basically straight through :)

Just thought I'd throw this one in. Long collector, exhaust OVER driveshafts. L6'S are apparently susceptable to a flatspot around 4000rpm and the long collector helps to eliminate this.

Mr Brooks statement that L6's are renowned for having a flat spot at around 3.5K to 4K is indeed born out by many sources/many dyno graphs and in conjunction with the earlier 280ZX gearbox (long ratios) can make for a miserable drive as the change from 2nd to 3rd drops you right in it.
Many people fail to appreciate the interaction of the collector with the engine and as a result bolt on any old bit of pipe "Y” lying around, the collector lengths (certainly on an L series) have a pronounced effect on the way the engine behaves and the set-up pictured has been developed to exacting tolerances/manufactured to extremely high quality (by a well known source) specifically to rectify these shortfalls and mate up to the Nismo 6 into 2 header (IMHO the best header available in the uk) proof of the pudding is in the cars that are using them (the exact details of who etc are a little guarded), but it was worth a considerable improvement on mine in both ultimate power, delivery and the flattening of the torque curve almost removing the dreaded dip entirely. It is without shadow of a doubt the best system currently around -- not cheap though  but in my eyes worth every penny oh and BTW it runs 97dB on a noise meter with no centre box, so it’s reasonably quiet as well.

Which set up pictured Steve: The Janspeed that myself and Russ have or the one Nigel pictured? Are you saying the one Nigel posted is designed to go on the back of the Nismo manifold?

What is that one Nigel, who makes it and what material?

Which set up pictured Steve

The system Nigel pictured, Which is made by Motormec (Lawrence Evans) in Coalville home of the east african safari rally car (featured in the Z club mag I think last Summer), is designed to mate up to the Nismo 1-5/8" and 1-3/4" 6 into 2 header (seen below)

The Nismo is the closest we can get (without buying out of Japan) to some of the now discontinued race developed headers of the 70's and 80's (electromotive etc) and is used on many (if not all?) race orientated L series cars in the UK.

Makes great power, (I saw a 24 hp power increase over a more freely available system) works well with long collector, sounds great and the build quality is the best of the bunch.

Once again not cheap -- a full exhaust system combining these bad boys will set you back well over £1000 but its the daddy  Loads of dosh considering none of it is stainless but make it of good enough quality and it will survive (I have had mine on for 14 months now with absolutely no signs of corrosion

Dilemma...

It seems I am faced with trying to find a company who will fabricate the rest of the system (not much goin' on in Hull) or buy a full system safe in the knowledge it'll all fit and work.

:conf2:

It's crap. :p

It's just a manifold, not open headers, not the performance option, but probably fine. I never really read into them as no one (that I know of) choses to have a normal manifold.

cheers Russ.....so if i was lucky to grab a 2nd hand 'better one' how easy to get / how much difference / and HOW MUCH!?

Cheers again Si

Si, I'm considering selling mine [see pics previous] it's a stainless Janspeed and has had little use.

I'm considering selling it 'coz it means I'd either have to have the rest of the Janspeed in mild steel or get a s/s one made up and there ain't no-one reputable in this area.

If I was to sell it, you could have it for what I paid £175.00 and I'll throw in the the new gasket from MJP.

I'll know in a couple of days if I'm gonna try and get it fitted or get a full system from somewhere else.
