Fiber Optic ?

Fitted a new Auto Meter Tacho today and noticed a Fiber Optic Cable hanging down not plugged in to anything so can anyone tell me where it goes as after over an Hour of looking i'm none the wiser .

As far as I remember it illuminates the cigarette lighter. When I found this on my 240 I was amazed for a 73 car!

Thanks. I wonder why they didn't illuminate the heater controls at the same time ,it seems silly to use a fiber optic just to do the lighter when a bulb behind the ring like on most cars would of done fine .

I fitted a small bulb behind my heater controls & painted it blue, it lights the slots up.
