Differences in USA & UK 240Z

Rick Holland

USA 240z (3), UK 240z (not yet)
Hi everyone,

Having had three 240Zs in America, I am now beginning my hunt for a 240z to help me explore the UK.

It's easy to see that some UK 240s have front indicator lights near the grille, rather than below the bumper, and that the rear side markers lights on USA models aren't on the UK models.

I've searched through earlier threads to no avail...has someone detailed the differences across 240s from the UK, USA, or elsewhere?

Thanks in advance for any info, and I look forward to hanging around here with other z-heads.

Rick

Hi Rick,

mant, many UK Zs are no longer in original spec so I would suggest just to find a good, clean exampleand enjoy.........unless the differences are really important to you ?

5 speed gearbox ,3.9 ratio diff, door mirrors are different, light wiring is different, less emission controls on the engine on later 240Z,steering wheel on the righthand side and a lot of rust sometimes

North American market ( USA & Canada ) '240Z' models had myriad small detail differences from other market models, but the biggest difference is in driving character.....

In comparison to other market models, those North American market cars had softer springing and damping, thinner anti roll bar on the front and no anti roll bar on the rear. Their wide ratio 4-speed trans and 3.3 diff ratio effectively made them more suitable to churning along in 4th for long distances, and their higher numerical steering rack made for super light but less sensitive steering feel.

There's an elephant in the room about actual engine power on the North American market models too, but maybe best not to go into that here.....

Thanks, guys, especially for the helpful gas/petrol and LHD/RHD comments. I suppose I walked right into those. :)

I appreciate the info on the diff ratios, and Albrecht, tell me about that elephant.

Rick

We have the 1971 FairladyZ-L, RHD, which has the original 5-speed and 1999cc in-line 6 cylinder engine.
