Can I disconnect the hose from the fuel pump...

... to the fuel line without the whole tank spilling out?

I need to rearrange my filters and pump, and it's the first time I'm working at the fuel tank in the rear. I've had both good and bad luck with this on some cars. How is it with the S30?

Peter the early cars had a drain plug does your's have one? If so it might be a good time to flush the muck out.

Mine doesn't have that sadly. My idea was to empty the tank with the fuel pump into a container via a hose.

Then I will clean the tank out. My fine filter gets clogged... It needs to be rectified.

Do you still run the return system?

If so keep using the car (to shake the muck around) and replace the 'pre-pump' filters regularly. After a while all the muck will have been 'caught'.

It will do the same if you don't have the return but it will just take longer.

Good advice!

Yes I run the return system. I have bought a filter and spare filters that should take care of it then. The fuel was actually browner than I thought... so think I should flush the tank anyway though.

Thanks for that Neil. Someone’s put an inline filter before the pump so I have a bit of leeway. I’ll give the sealant a go if I can’t sort it the other way.
