Cam spray bar leak.

Hi, All,
After priming oil through the engine I noticed I had oil leaking from both of the oil terminal plates on the cam spray bar. Has anyone come across this issue before? (photos attached item 20 on part list) And more importantly what's the fix. Can't see any new seals available here or in the States, so any help or ideas would be really appreciated.

Cheers
Rob

I'd just cut a gasket from a piece of cardboard. I'm pretty sure that's what I did when I had a spray bar.

Thanks Jon,
the original seal looks like its rubber or most likely silicone and its probably perished after all these years. So will probably go that route if needed. Although I'm surprised no one is making replacement seals, since they seem to make everything else for this engine.

Is there an alternative to a spray bar?

Didn't know that.
What model did they introduce that variant and would it be possible to do that with a 240Z?

Not sure when they swapped over - maybe 75 or 76?
If you can get a cam that's drilled you can fit it in the 240z - you just need to make blanking plates to go over the holes in the cam towers where the spray bar was.

tried to reply from my phone but just found out today the message failed.

Thanks Jon, I'll look into that as an option, as the spray bar isn't the most robust bit of kit anyway.

Glad someone has the answers.

I've heard that both spraybar and internally oiled cam can be used at the same time. You would hope the oil pump could cope?

I've have the front part of a spray bar come loose and also the rubber gasket incorrectly fitted and part block an oilway.

Hi Rob,
I think this issue on my car seems to be age related I've owned the car since 1977 and know for sure that the seals have never been replaced.
During the engine rebuild I fitted a high out-put oil pump so it should be capable of running both if I do go that way. Although I was hoping to keep the engine performance as standard as possible, so if you or anyone else knows a particular after market (internally oiled) cam that would fit the bill I would appreciate being pointed in the right direction.
As with all rebuilds once you start down that road you uncover many little and some not so little obstacles that throw you off course for a while. It's reassuring being part of a group that have a wealth of knowledge on the subject.

Quick update.
Ordered a cross drilled cam from Piper and made new gaskets for the old spray bar, so should be good to go once I get all the bits put back together and that might take a while as waiting for some T3 stuff to upgrade the suspension and steering.

Thanks for the advice, much appreciated.
Rob
