Auctions are on fire in July

Evening all!
With reference to the start of this thread I am interested to know opinions of this car:
https://www.silverstoneauctions.com/1978-datsun-260z---8150mls-
I can't decide whether it would be a dream or a nightmare. As a non-expert it looks surprisingly rusty on the underside for the mileage, or perhaps that should be expected for 38 year? I can see the list of remedial works becoming huge so the guide price does not seem that attractive.

No, not worth anywhere near the bottom estimate/reserve.
Scabs and micro blistering all over paintwork, needs a repaint, bare metal budget £5k at least, engine bay scruffy for low mileage car, seen the car up close this afternoon with Jake Rah at Silverstone. He is a 260 man and valued it £15k, I would go a bit higher but not worth £25k reserve plus 12.5% +vat buyers premium.
The 71 240Z that ukfb66 refers to made what it was worth, bid to £20.5k unsold as seller being greedy and unrealistic expectations.

Chris, what was the general condition of that red one like? It was sold as being all original (or was being done so by JD) ... when it clearly wasn't.

The red car is a very nice original car, i imported it from Georgia (US) and sold it at same auction at Silverstone Classic two years ago for £ 11.5k. Bid to £20.5k today. Only difference in condition is that whomever owns it has since repaired minor rust in doglegs. New metalwork or filled ? I wouldn't like to speculate but would ask for photos of work ;) That aside, car is 95% original paint which is a nice feature. The car has a genuine 57k miles from new and is pretty much factory original unmolested spec. with a major caveat ! I bought that car without its original engine. A well respected Z racer/engineer friend of mine in the States fitted a rebuilt L24 engine to the car after I bought it and that had done around 80k miles. It is a superbly rebuilt engine with perfect compression but not matching to the car if that is important to the would be buyer, a fact that was not mentioned in the auction house write up making the car less original than they portrayed. If i was in the market for a Z I would happily pay £20k for the car so I think it was fairly bid at £20.5k plus 12.5%+vat buyer premium.

Notice the low mileage bronze 260Z at Silverstone auction yesterday also did not sell, surprise, surprise with the auction house setting another unrealistic reserve compared to actual condition !

Mike ( UKFB66 ) did you follow it online ? Any idea what it was bid to on the floor ?

Reserve £ 28,750 ( comprising £ 25,000 plus 12.5%+VAT buyer premium )

The reserve price with Silverstone Auctions is always the bottom guide price figure. If bidding gets close to this figure and stops, they will reduce their commission to get a sale.
