Anyone live in or near Luton?

Hi All,

I've got to get to the airport there for 8am :)mad: ) on Tuesday, I need to know how bad the roadworks on the M1 are at J10. I've got a couple of other routes one of which is affected by roadworks on the A1 and the other involves the A6 in to Luton which I've been recommended best to avoid, so seems to be one problem or another on all routes for me - joy!

Any up to date info is highly appreciated.

Cheers,
Rob

I came off at J10 coming back from Silverstone the other week and it was fine.....but it wasn't 8am on a Tuesday morning.

My advise would be to get there for 7am and sit in the lounge drinking coffee for an hour. It beats sitting in traffic for two.

Rob,M1 is a nooooooooo unless early morning. Had to do the journey twice a few weeks ago, first time a tad slow but moving, second time sat for ages.

Rats, still not sounding brill.

Rob, have you been up the A1 lately? I've been told there are roadworks at the Sandy roundabout worth avoiding. A decent sounding alternative route would be A1 down to Baldock then cutting over to Hitchin and picking up the A505 right down to the airport, but could be complicated by the Sandy experience, although that can't be as bad as the M1.

I suspect I'll be hitting the road a lot earlier than I really want to :(

Cheers,
Rob

I don't recall anything on the A1 of late - I know the work at Black Cat roundabout is complete.

Ta chaps, A1 route it is, guess I'd still better get my bum out of bed a bit earlier than nature intends though :(

Cheers,
Rob

The M1 is a nightmare at the moment but does normally keep moving at about 40mph.

The A505 I believe comes all the way down from Cambridge (IIRC) but the part between hitchin and luton is a fantastic bit of road...

I actually prefer the run on that section from Luton into Hitchin. There's two very fast sweeping down-hill right handers....and dual carriageway too, so plenty of rooom to push it

Yup, decision made, A1-A602-A505-LA, will hit the road at 6am after downing a few brews and hopefully be there by 7:45-8:00. Booked the car park and done the online check-in so should just be a matter of staggering off the parking bus in to terminal and over to the departure lounge. Then carefully avoiding any food and drink proferred by EasyJets finest trolley dollies ;)

Cheers,
Rob

Home already! Gawd I'm a bit knackered but the journey there and back was a breeze, just over an hour each way, thanks for the help guys! And yes the 505 is quite a fun stretch, although the last fairly sharp (for a dual carriage way) bend which goes up hill in to Luton was a bit worrying when the cruise control decided it wanted to speed up unexpectedly, obviously I live to tell the tale ;)

Cheers,
Rob

That section of 505 can be really good but there are some quite tight corners, especially for a dual carriageway.

Last time I went up there I saw a Punto that had gone over the hedge. Not something I would want to do...
