There's a small number of bigots on this forum.
Your fixing it your way (whether it's the 'right' way is irrelevant), it's your car.
And it's obvious they won't stop whinging until you do it their way.

What was that Bob Dylan song?
"Well i try my best to be just like I am, but everyone wants you to be just like them..."

Thanks.

:)

Btw if anyone is wondering where I got the brand new rear strut gaitors from that fit perfectly and are not genuine datsun parts but infact from another vehicle, I can pass on the info for you.

I did a lot of research to get a part which was as close fitting to the original, and they are. And they are not at all expensive either plus they are widely available.

Thanks.

I also have a spare set, as I bought 2x sets, moments before I managed to get an almost new genuine oem set for the front.
As previously posted and currently fitted.

Also going to get a guy I regularly use for jap custom reg. Plates to make me up some black and silver plates for the car (I know it is 4 years past the regulation, but Zi think it will get away with it)! Plus they look a whole lot better in my opinion! :)

Andgoing to get a jap sized sticky plate made up for the front in the black and silver style.

:)

Sending the email order through tomorrow.

Will post up pics when they are received.

Can anyone provide the dimensions of the square/rectangular plate that the 260z comes with at the rear please as I do not have a rear plate to take dimensions from...

Thankyou in advance.

:)

Would ideally like the sizing of an old style metal black and silver plate if they differ in size from the newer yellow ones.

Thanks.

:)

Highway star is spot on,when a zed come up for sale all the nit pickers come out of the woodwork,I have that front number plate thing I was on about but the plate will have to be square rather than oblong if you want it

"Bigots"? You clearly have no idea what's going on here.

Who gives a damn about the guy "doing it his way"? The point is that what he's saying he's doing, what he's saying he is going to do, what he says his aims are ("best in the country", "show winner" etc etc) and finally what is shown in his photos doesn't add up. Simple as that.

If you 'enjoy' his stream-of-conciousness posting style (Kerouac would point out it's more like unconscious...) then you must be made of The Right Stuff. Personally I think it reads like it was written by a ten year old kid, although I doubt a ten year old kid would use some of the bad language that's been edited out of his posts (and which you presumably haven't seen?). Hopefully a ten year old kid would have a little bit more common sense, or at least the wit, wisdom and sense of self awareness to realise at some point that his work just isn't achieving his stated aim.

Quoting Dylan is all very well, but frankly I don't think he'd want to be associated with this project if he had the choice. But since you've done it, I'll fire one straight back at you:

"You walk into the room/With your pencil in your hand.../You try so hard/But you don't understand...".

Thank you for my first proper LOL of the day!

I think a lot of question marks hang over what we will see when/if this particular example gets On the Road...

While we're on song lyrics, this somehow seems apposite:

"Nobody gonna take my car, I'm gonna race it to the ground
Nobody gonna beat my car, it's gonna break the speed of sound
Ooh it's a killing machine it's got everything
Like a driving power, big fat tires, everything"

On another note, how much would one normally pay for a bolt on set of hilux 4-pot front calipers in used condition?

Thanks.

Having done it, my advice is if your brakes function, leave them as they are until you've dealt with the big rusty bits. Put the car back together and then look at if you're not happy with them. It's a really easy job you can do in a half a day.

There is a lot of info on this topic on various forums. Do your homework on which Hilux callipers: vented discs or unvented.

Read this thread ...
http://www.zclub.net/forum/showthread.php?t=22837

You can pick up callipers for between £100-£300 depending on condition but you need discs especially machined to have holes in the right places if you go vented. Budget a total of c. £500 if you also want to go braided brake lines and upgrade the master cylinder to a 280zx one to compensate for additional pedal travel.

Also as you'll see on above thread, you may find they won't fit under your wheels without modification as I discovered after fitting them.

Seriously though muscle man, I would leave this one as a nice to have job, your call.

No you don't. 1984-85 Z31 300zx non-turbo discs are vented and bolt-on, with the addition of the usual 1/2" hub centric spacer common in the usual kits (to make up for the different height "hat" on the disc). This is for use with the bigger "S12W" stamped calipers (Hilux, 4Runner). The vented discs can be had pretty cheaply either plain, cross-drilled and/or slotted, etc. Rockauto stocked them last time I checked.

Can you please send a link to the ebay ones please.

Can not find them.

Also BLEEDING SWIVEL BOLTS AND COTTER PINS ARE *****!!!!!!!

Only got 1 side on the car, the other side still needs the swivel bolt and cotter pin putting in!!!

It is a FREAKING PITA!!!!!!!!!!!

Taken hours to line up, dverything is soooo tight and the cotter pin is still only just more than half way in!!

FFS!!

Not after a big brake kit really.

Just was going to rebuild mine with new pistons and seal kit, but for a cheaper price maybe I can get a 4-pot upgrade, so does not really make sense to buy the rebuild kit....

If that makes sense...

I know all about the trying to keep it as original as possible, but I do not see this as a big mod, very subtle and passable being "bolt on", plus it will make it stop a slight bit better...

Not even after the vented discs...
Just some solid disc 4-pots would do nicely...
