3D 280zx model

Ever thought about looking for work with a games studio? That's about what current tech allows for in racing sims!

It's not as easy to get into as you may think :( most people come out of college with pieces of paper which gets them in the front door, but I'm self taught and like most things in life if you haven't got a certificate your no good at what you do!! Besides I'm a bit long in the tooth now because I'm not in my 20's ;)

You're never too old Tony! Or maybe you could team up with some modders or something, there is a big community of sim racing fans, mostly over at nogripracing these days. It's all non-profit, but the modding teams pretty much operate like game devs, some guys do the models, others do the car physics etc.

There's a new gen of racing simulators just around the corner too, GTR 3, Project CARS, rFactor 2, Assetto Corsa.

I dunno if it's the kind of thing you'd be interested in but it'd be nice to see your work enjoyed by more people, and seeing as you already produce the 3d models you could probably find others who would take it from there and put it all into a car mod.

[EDIT] for example, this is one of my favourite mods for GTR 2, it's a 7 year old game, so ancient in gaming terms but still one of the best simulators out there imo. This is the Japanese SuperGT mod, the models are low poly as it's an old game engine but you can see the sort of thing I'm talking about :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UO7s0e-PSRQ

I wish I still had time to play this game!

Another update  added little items as well like badges and chrome trim around the screen, it's all the small bits that take the time... hope your not getting too bored :D got a long way to go yet to the final renders :280Z:

Just one pedantic comment - you have the front bumper from the '82/'83 series coupled with the bonnet from the '79/'81 series. Many cars have ended up with this configuration as parts are interchangeable, but Nissan didn't produce a model with that combination of parts.
Fine if you are modelling a specific car for someone, but not correct as a standard reference.
There are some other minor details when you come to the finishing trim, e.g. B-pillar trims are different between the two series, also side mouldings.

Thanks Mike, am I correct in saying that the grills should be, one square'ish and one with a scoop as per attached image:confused:
thanks

Yes - those are the later model "turbo" grilles. The RH is the oblong and the scoop is LH. Designed to duct cooling air onto the turbo we never had in the UK market but fitted as part of the facelift anyway!

OK it's question time again, what where the standard mirrors that where used? am I correct in thinking it was chrome?

thanks in advance

Sorry have another question to add to the one above:devil: was there a set style of wheel for the 82/83 series? Seem to be picking up two styles on google?

Thanks again :)

Thanks again for the info  I assume then that the wheels are these ones?

I'm fairly sure that the four spoke "Iron Cross" wheel was offered throughout the UK run in both black and gold versions. Not sure when the third alternative Denloc wheel with Denovo run-flat tyres were dropped, but the parts listing suggests that it was an option until the end of the model run.

Thanks for posting  the 'Iron Cross' it is then :D

Too late :D had a rest from the car and started the wheels, still got a bit of tweaking to do :)
