Thought I'd share this incase it saves someone else from doing the same.
My alternator belt has been a bit tired since I bought the car, so I bought three belts, change them all, from the local motor factors (I was in a hurry and £15ish all in). I finally got around to fitting them this morning, bit of a pig of a job even on the ramp. Note your air con pump, alt, fan etc all only have one adjuster/pinch bolts so don't spend ages looking for others.
I fitted all three, went to adjust the alternator last of all, and the belt was way too long. I read the numbers, I bough a 1038 (mm I presume) long belt, and the old one is 1010. I have bought a UK alternator belt, and the Japanese imports have a smaller alternator pulley and require a shorter belt By then it was too late to change back so had to drive home with an alternator belt that squeeled a bit at the lights I'll fit the correct length next weekend D'oh.
