All as in light and all?

If all elecrtonic cuts out, it can't just be your coil, fuseable links if the ZX have them.

Couldn't get hold of the 3 fusible links so I took the wiring out and replaced it, re-used the same 9mm connector terminals.

I'm in the car now, turned the ignition on 3 times, all 3 times I can hear the fuel pump but then when I turn nothing. First 2 times no dash lights came on, 3rd time dash lights came on but still didn't turn over. 4th time and the car is now switched on. I'll check coil after a bit.

Had the car started for around 15 minutes, the coil isn't overheating, in fact it isn't even hot.

I've checked both fusible links marked IGN, one operates the ignition lights and one operates the ignition, obviously when the car is switched on they are both functioning, I've had an electrician mate of mine check yesterday when they were off the car and he told me all 3 are fine. So I think we're back to relay!

I think I had something similar with one of my 280ZXs

IIRC there is a relay that sits behind a panel on the front nearside inner wing towards the back, which I can't remember the purpose off-well it was a few years ago!

Cleaning the terminals up cured the problem.

I can.t find my 280ZX Haynes manual at the moment to see if there are any pics, but I am sure Mike F can shed more light on it -his memory is probably better than mine. :)

Tee,
You have PM. The relay mentioned above is for the EFI.
PM me your email address and I'll send you over a EFI trouble shooting guide.

This was my first suggestion to Tee. It is basically the relay that switches on (or off in the case of failure) all EFI functions. I was understanding that this had been replaced...

It is a common failure point on older 280s particularly when not used for a while. The relay contacts must fur up and lose their "hold" while driving along. Wait a while and they recover, the car starts and runs for a while and then fails just down the road!

Ye as Mike said we'd already discussed this, I hvent replaced it as can't get hold of one! But I did open it up, cleaned the contacts and there was a loose wire which I re-soldered.

I've also replaced the wires on my fusible links, the car started and drives which is a big step! Drove a couple of miles fine, and there is current to all connections as I've used my trusty bulb and it's been shedding it's light. Fingers crossed the problem is solved.
