Just for a bit of bling, thought it was bit different and interesting. You'll not see it with the wheels on anyway so its not going to make the car look any less original from the outside.

Most parts are back in the bay now apart from the engine. Body panels back on and properly aligned, airdam mounted and diffuser plate made.

Airdam is to be painted blue but I thinks it also looks quite cool in black so I'm considering keeping it black.

If you look behind the airdam you can see a big gap between the airdam and the radiator panel, this is bad for airflow and creates a lot of turbulence. To sort this out and improve airflow to the radiator and eventually also the intercooler I got an aluminium plate made up, this will be painted satin black. I think it improves the looks aswell as the airflow.

That all looks like a really good fit Ian. Nice job on the ally plate. I agree this will really help the airflow.
Have you thought about a piece from the airdam to support it back to the crossmember and, then a ally undertray to the rear of the engine bay?
Aero on a zed is not thought about very often and can make a big difference imo.

I have plans to make a diffuser from carbon fibre starting from the front of the airdam poking out about 2cm and going right back as far as possible in the bay.

Still having trouble deciding to go blue or stay black with the airdam:

In other new, this car is definitely going RB, because I've just bought a fully forged RB26 with lots of Tomei goodies. :D  Engine will be good for over 700HP, but I'll never run that much, hoping to have a 450HP map and a second high boost map at the flick of a switch to change to something like 550hp.

Great car, great project ! I hope mine would be some day at least half as good as Yours. In my opinion black airdam looks perfectly with the blue paint. It is standard airdam or aftermarket ? Can I ask where did U get it ?
A little bit of inspiration. Maybe that would help You to stay with black airdam ;)

Thanks, if you want it bad enough and try hard enough you can make your car as good as you want. Therefore I'm sure your can be as good as or better than mine is. Cheers

I does, but might not be classic enough looking, its not standard, I bought it from MSA.

I've seen that video before, the car does look good, looks very like the star road blue Z which I know well. Still having a hard time deciding on colour.

Thanks Dave. Not decided on sump yet, got 3 options, get one made my RIPS, buy one from McKinney Motorsports or get one made by a guy on the Hybrid Z forum. Need to price options, RIPS would probably be the best, good baffled setup and extended capacity, but it might be too expensive.

Brake lines are now fitted, the rear brakes, diff mount and cv shafts should be fitted this week.

Only photos I have of the brake lines at the moment, I will try and get bigger ones. They are looking good I think, it was definitely the right choice to use polished stainless hardlines, they look so much better than copper or cunifer ones.

Having trouble deciding between -7 (N1) turbos or -9 (GT-SS) turbos at the moment. I might be able to make 500hp with -7 turbos, which would be enouth, but they fall off a lot more than I'd like at higher revs. I can make way more power than I need from -9's and they are good at higher revs but they will spool slightly later than -7's.

Personally I would lean towards the smaller ones for better drivability but, I guess it depends your goals?
Do they have 360 Bearings?

Yes, if there was a big difference I would also, but from what I can see theres not a massive difference, the GT-SS will spool about 200 rpms later than the -7's in most cases, 300rpm in worst case. Full boost by 4100rpm for the GT-SS isn't bad.

The GT-SS have ball bearings, the N1's it depends which year I go for, I'd probably try for R34 N1's which have ball bearings also I think, other models also have 360 bearings.

Due some updates, most of the work is done: diff mount, cv shafts and conversion flanges, billet stub axles, rear brakes, prop valve, suspension, brake lines and engine are all fitted.

Not so good photos, when I get better ones I'll put them up.

Still got some wiring to do, fusible links to be changed for modern fuses, fan to wire up, airdam and bumper to be fitted , rear strut brace altered to fit, fuel lines to connect up and that's about it.

May also have turbos (HKS GT-SS) and gearbox sorted now too.

Some photos of the engine.

Got lots to do to just get it looking ready, got to:

Clean up throttle bodies and throttle linkages

Possibly powdercoat intake plenum - metallic silver

Remove fan

Remove power steering pump

Polish cas unit

Try and polish up cam gear cover to make it properly clear again, if this is not possible I'll buy a new one or use a stock metal one

Remove breathers on cam covers and weld on -10 fitings and repaint in R34 red

Buy plug cover

Clean and repaint block

Get exhaust manifolds ceramic coated

Came without twin turbo outlet piping, need to buy them, modify it to make the airflow meet better and get it polished.

That's all on top of fitting new parts like the custom sump and turbos. I'll make sure it all looks mint before it goes in.

Looks pretty clean already!

The brake lines are really nice, makes a hell of a difference to the appearance of the engine bay

Its not bad, but its not perfect, I want it to look as close to perfect as possible.

They do, theres nothing I hate mire than messy hardlines in an otherwise tidy bay, SS is hard to work with and expensive, but totally worth it.

Thanks for the good comments guys.

About time for an update.

This is just about finished for the first stage of the project. Shes running again although I do have a lot of the little details to sort and she also needs a good detail. I spent a few hours cleaning the interior today as she was filthy, some of the dust from the blasting found its way inside and coated everything, I wet wiped, dryed and treated every surface and took the seats out and vacuumed everywhere and while I was at it I took the seat rails off and cleaned them as dust had stuck to the grease and was preventing them sliding smoothly.

Not the best photos but you get an idea, I'll take better ones once I wash her properly, the rear wing is on now also since I took these.

I love how shes looks, I couldn't be happier, the wheels and airdam are perfect and make such a difference together with the lowering.

Still got lots of setting up to do, tracking, caster and camber are all off and need set and I need to bed in the brakes and play with the brake bias valve to find the right balance, even as she is it feels great and it really stops well. Have been having problems with the float chambers overflowing on the carbs, cleaned them up today so hopefully that's sorted but I need to wait for new gaskets for them.

Will hopefully have better photos soon. Got a lot of work to do on the RB26 to get it ready so that wlll keep me busy, also my Civic is going to take lot of work, two projects at once is hard going.

Wish the weather was better.
