260z for sale

Looks in very good condition. Price still looks a bit high for a 260 though. By the time you've got it over hear, replaced the bumpers and painted it (full colour change?). Maybe a set of wheels and tyres and your into the car for 16-18k. Then whats it worth? If you want a standard 260 to just drive around in and your not worried about the faded paint then you will probably get away with 12k on the road with some bumpers.

These cars arnt cheap anymore so its becomeing hard to justify as a runaround.

Im loving these prices!!! Thankfully Im not looking to buy another.... cant wait for mine to be completed!!

Ooh but it should be changed, look at the comedy bumpers, the master brake cylinders don't look stock either. carbs will be a problem probably in time?

Ok as a museum piece example of how the US spoil nice cars!

He is dreaming at that price, imagine the price of a stock UK properly restored example over £30grand??

Yes the bumpers are awful.

To be comparable the UK car would have to be un-restored.

Edited because I was talking ****. Correction below!

That car Rob linked to is NOT a 73' 260Z either. It's a 280Z. The 260Z in the US had a bumper similar-ish to the US market 73' 240Z, not those huge monstrosities. Also, look at the rear quarters in front of the bumper - no bumper side recesses. Again, 260Zs had these recesses, 280Z shells do not.

EDIT: the bumpers should be like the car Tel posted at the top.

Yes, the engine has 260Z flat top carbs added, but the rest of it is 75' onwards 280Z spec.

Basically, lots in that ad is inaccurate.

Rich, are you sure about everything?

Here is a '74 2+2.

Hehe, looks like I might be eating crow on this one!

Looks like US 260Zs can be divided into two variants - those like I described, as per the example in Terry's OP with the smaller bumpers, and a late version which is basically more like a 280Z with a 260Z engine, with 5mph Impact bumpers and all that jazz. So that one in the ad you found Rob is a late-74 260Z.

Still overpriced though IMO - that's 240Z money.

I suppose it depends on what you are after and if you are into all that "one owner" originality stuff. Me personally - 25k for a LHD 260z with those God awful impact bumpers on it? No thanks.

We had an early US 260Z here which had the same bumpers as a late US 240Z.

But it remains a LHD car.......

The U.S. 73' 240Z was basically the first attempt by Nissan at adhering to the changing legislation on impact requirements, and the early 260Zs continued this. They have bumpers that look (at first glance) like the earlier 240Z bumpers but are further from the body and cushioned with big rubber spacers behind them. The front brackets are different too. The 260Z bumpers also tend to have bigger overriders too. Then arrives the dreaded big bumpers...

RLS30 says 09/73 on the door-jamb plate.

Yes of course I realise that but if it's converted it's not the same thing. My point being it's originality, condition, low mileage, rarity and it's here in the UK already not the USA.

I'm not saying I like the bumpers.

Nobody is forcing this car on anyone. Terry started the Thread by linking to a car that had not been 'messed about' and I just pointed out another one that was even less 'messed about' and in the UK. Terry's is in Poland and again LHD. Terry's was cheaper yes.

Sean you and I are on different wavelengths - always have been and it leads to too many posts to get each other's points across.

Perhaps, but you seem frequently to be on the defensive and explaining (justifying) why you state something as if being attacked which is NOT the case. This is another instance  : I mention it being LHD simply to stimulate discussion because so freqently people here have played down the value of a LHD car advertised.

But the fact that it is advertised in English on an English site doesn't preclude it being advertised to a wider and therefore LHD market and even that within the USA !

So many cars over there were trashed or customised and they're waking up to their values that original USA destination cars in perfect condition have become rare. Add in the Z-starved continental Europe and especially east of Germany and the Middle East and there is a very large potential buying public following that sales site.

Get over thinking that a car advertised on that site is being directed at UK buyers and certain prices might fall into line.;)

I reckon its the bumpers as well as a lot of the carb/smog issues in the US market which dictate the inflated prices of 240z over 260z/280z prices.
Lets face it those bumpers are ugly; and a ugly car no matter what condition etc will never be as valuable as a more "pretty" car!
A european spec 260z 2seat would be my car of choice. (even though it will never be as valuable).:(
