Especially as they were on a race car and 1000 miles is a lot of race miles.
Could someone explain the differences between 240z and 260z hubs.
Are the Tpyota calipers suitable for the 260z hub??

260 hubs puts the disc 10mm closer to the strut. The 260 disc compensates for this so that the disc is in the same place as the 240.

sierra cosworth 2wd vented discs and 4 pot calipers will fit with a bit off messing around and the bits are dead cheap, with recon calipers new discs and pads you can do the job for about 400 quid cheaper if you go for second hand parts but you need 15in wheels, the good thing about this conversion is the parts are dead easy to get hold of ( brakes international). any one intrested give me a call and ill run through it with you. 07768174805.

You have to use 240Z hubs with the Toyota conversion

Not strictly true. If you use machined peugeot 505Gti discs on 260 hubs and the vented type toyota calipers there are no clearance issues (15" wheels preferable). You end up with 4 pot vented brakes and no spacers.

All pretty interesting and confusing at the same time.
Surely there must be an alternative to getting discs machined, and new stud holes etc.
I have heard that some Holden discs may fit straight on.
will continue searching for a suitable disc.
Only problem I see with the toyota caliper is choice in brake pads, it seems limited to low temp organic types. Even the original 240/260z has greater choice anyone tried EBC green? they are supposed to be ok up to 650degrees C.

I think the best thing you can do is buy the complete kit. This way you will get everything and its a simple case of just fitting and the kit you use Nissan 300ZX 4 stud disc with no machining or anything

Have a look at this link : The Z Store! Nissan-Datsun 240Z-260Z-280Z-280ZX-300ZX(Z31/Z32)-350Z-370Z Parts: XL Four Piston Caliper Kits

Plus you can get uprated brake pads as well.
