240/260 axles

hi there   the 240 had a smaller differential than the 260   R180 and R200 respectively. They are interchangable though   ben

The two differentials are different: the 240Z used a 3.9:1 ratio in an R180 unit (180mm crown wheel). The 260Zs use R200 units (200mm crown wheels) in 3.5:1 and 3.7:1 ratios (UK market). BTW the 280ZX auto uses an R180 and the manuals use R200s. The '82/'83 280ZX manual has the same 3.9:1 ratio as the 240Z. No parts interchange between the R180 and R200 (well, maybe a bearing or two or a shim, I haven't done a definitive check on that&#33<img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>.
The R200 will fit in a 240Z if you use the 260Z "moustache" bar (rear support).
Driveshafts are the same on both models. Rear lower arms are different between 240Z and 260Z. Roll bar specs and struts all vary between models (and within 260Z years). Bearings within the hubs are the same in all Z models.
Beware that the very earliest 240Zs have a different configuration with angled driveshafts and a different front diff mount - these cars are now very rare and some will have been converted to the later spec.
